Francis Lung (Wu Lyf, ffo Harry Nilsson, The Beach Boys) | Shares new single

“The Let Down” is the latest in a run of singles from the new record following the BBC 6 Music playlisted “Bad Hair Day” (now on the B-list, also tipped at The Times, Guardian, NPR, DIY, Best Fit, etc) and “Lonesome No More” which arrived in March. This new one was written on piano as opposed to guitar marking a significant change in Francis’ approach to writing. It’s sequenced as the final track on the album because it provides something of an underscoring of all the emotions and catharsis that Lung processes on the album; it’s a deeply personal record for the ex-Wu Lyf member, largely looking at mental health and his move to sobriety.

Penfriend shares brand new single ‘I’ll Start A Fire’

Armed with wonderfully fuzzy guitars and injected with a Nirvana-esque energy, ‘I’ll Start A Fire’ is a song about causing a ruckus even while everything is going wrong, cutting bad connections and ignoring all the noise in order to be free and express ourselves honestly. Taking whatever personal power we still have and making something with it, stopping ourselves from stopping ourselves.

Diane and the Gentle Men Reveal “The World is a Goner”

“The World is a Goner” is the first single from the newest album coming from Diane and the Gentle Men. Written at home during a pandemic, she says “the song came about from looking for alternate ideas for creativity, while dancing around my house by myself in an effort to feel alive and well. We sometimes take for granted that when we are out and about on a daily basis, inspiration is endless. Being forced to stay indoors for a longer period of time allowed me to venture down a rabbit hole of podcasts, You Tube documentaries, old radio programs and television programs of yesteryear.

He adds: “There is no real concrete specific concept, it touches on some personal topics in my life long, my interest in the dark arts, that to have light you must have darkness to balance everything. This is a very dark album, but what else is new I always write dark music to soothe a dark soul!”

“Fortunate Son”

Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” was written as a protest song about the Vietnam War, with lyrics that touch on the wider power structures and class dimensions behind that conflict.

In today’s context, “Fortunate Son” resonates in a different way, considering how the pain caused by the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic is distributed so unevenly throughout society between the haves and the have-nots.
