Alex Rex shares ‘Black Peonies’ ft. Kacy Lee Anderson (Kacy & Clayton)

‘Black Peonies’, the new single from Alex Rex, is a ‘not-so-pure Bubblegum country romp’ featuring acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter and one half of Kacy & Clayton, Kacy Lee Anderson. The instrumentation is firmly rooted in the cosmic country tradition of the Flying Burrito Brothers and American Beauty era Grateful Dead, but the lyrics are 100% Alex Rex. Opening with the line “I wear the knickers you gave me when I play football with the boys” the song is a vocal sparring contest that Alex is bound to lose. The accompanying video was shot in Glasgow and directed by acclaimed musician, filmmaker and choreographer Daisy JT Smith, who has worked on videos by Sam Fender, Introvert by Little Simz and plays bass in South East London band Phobophobes.

From our grandparents through to theirs before them, and their journey to this land has created this unique Argentine experience that is such a strange yet ever present reality. Featuring echoes of bouncy grime flows teamed with deeper drill beats, Paper Pabs sets the tone for the rise of 3Smoke with ‘Side of the Step’. The candid street tale unravels with assured confidence as the trio affirm their position as culture patrons with their expansive skillset, notable experience and lyrical sway. Milli Major steps in on the track with ease, adding his guttural punch before Pabs pounces back in seamlessly with the wavey hook. Serving up the grand finale, Bossman Birdie delivers his bold, wavering flow as he flips between a lo-fi bounce in to a charged and skippy tempo resulting in a glorious celebration of the trio reuniting.

New Single “WORDS”

My new single, “Words,” was written in reaction to my four previous French albums and artistic career, ahead of the release of my first full-length English album, Be Here Now, available on June 4.

The fast emerging seventeen-year-old follows up his “GET MONEY” (ft. Document One Release ‘Hands Up’ on Elevate Records

Hot off the back of their weighty ‘Heat Beams’ collaboration with Levela, duo Document One follow suit with their stomping new single ‘Hands Up’ on Elevate Records. The pair have proven that they’re able to manipulate a variety of BPMs but more recently they’ve found a home within the drum & bass ranks of Elevate. Their dancefloor inspired records have kept fans engaged both at home and in club spaces, something which has translated throughout their live sets over the last twelve months despite the current circumstances. ‘Hands Up’ is a return to form, following a destructive pattern which can instantly be recognised as the Document One sound.

Listen to the Mountain Goats as they listen to “The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums”

Dark in Here, the forthcoming album from the Mountain Goats, was recorded at legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals. It’s a quieter and smokier batch of songs when compared to the rich and vibrant hues of its sibling “Memphis” record, last October’s Getting Into Knives. Perhaps no song better functions as Dark in Here’s sonic and emotional cornerstone than “The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums,” available for preview today:

After a steady release of singles and videos over the past couple years, MA’s Rush Nicklez delivers his subsequent new album IN A MATTER OF TIME. It will all happen when its suppose to” says Rush. His concepts range from hustling anthems to contemplating his motives and choices. Blueprint features the late Somerville OG 3rddy Baby where they deliver some entertaining braggadocious lines. On the Reflect video he enlists Boston legend Edo.G who brings his elder statesmen wisdom to match the melancholy theme. Producers 8Keyy, Lightfoot, Vessels, Genius, and King Mezzy supply the production along with Nox Beatz mixing and The Arictype for mastering. The one thing that is made crystal clear is that Rush has no plans of slowing down doing what he loves. LA’s Red Ribbon Debuts New Single/Video “High” via FLOOD Magazine Feature

LA-via-Seattle’s Red Ribbon (the project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emma Danner) today shared her eerie, enchanting new song/video “High” alongside a feature at FLOOD Magazine. “It could just be about drugs, or it can be about whatever in your life makes you high,” Danner explains of the third pre-release single off her forthcoming LP Planet X. “I lost my first love to an opioid addiction and I was a user of opiates in my youth. My whole life I’ve been trying to figure out what one can do to expand their consciousness outside of drug use. There’s a little bit of fear around feeling good in this song as well. If I follow this thread of happiness, will I lose my way?” The accompanying video, directed by Danner and Matthew James-Wilson, was made by hand with over 3,000 pieces of printer paper, painting and animation. Planet X will be released on June 11th, 2021, via Danger Collective Records and is now available for pre-order.

KIPP STONE DROPS NEW EP FAYGO BABY

East Cleveland rapper/producer Kipp Stone has released his new EP Faygo Baby via underground tastemaker label, Closed Sessions (Jamila Woods, Mother Nature, Boathouse). Centered on Kipp’s young Black experience, the essence of Faygo Baby captures the nostalgia of being six years old and walking to the corner store with $1. For Kipp, that meant a bottle of Faygo and a bag of chips from his local corner spot, Leslies. Whereas his past LP Homme was a rehashing of past domestic violence, poverty, and pain, Faygo Baby lives in the consciousness of rose-colored childhood memories but with the guarded backdrop of mistrust; Kipp’s first trip to Leslies was also the first time he witnessed someone getting shot at six years old. The EP features Chuck Strangers and production from Statik Selektah, 6th Sense, D’Artizt, and Kipp Stone himself.

Runnner signs to Run For Cover Records

Runnner—the project of the now LA-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Noah Weinman—has signed to Run For Cover Records, which will release his new album Always Repeating on July 16TH, 2021. A 10-track collection composed of five re-recorded versions of songs that appeared on his 2017 debut, Awash, and last year’s One of One EP, Always Repeating serves as a fresh introduction to the artist and his enchanting musical world, where he balances intimate and melancholy songwriting through the lens of hi-fi/lo-fi dynamics. “Awash,” the album’s sweeping first single out today, embodies the feeling of being lost and adrift through its aching melody, and builds on the track’s early demo with lush choral harmonies, banjo, trumpet, slide guitar, and more. “I wrote this song in about 15 minutes, though I had been kicking the title around for a bit,” Runnner explains. “It felt like the word I was looking for, but I couldn’t get past it. I was feeling so lost & distant from everything, but I would choke on the language anytime I tried to elaborate.

Roan Yellowthorn Share “Bloodline” via Under The Radar

An intensely personal track from the set, “Bloodline” just premiered at Under The Radar, who praise, “‘Bloodline’ perfectly balances the melodic side of the band with their penchant for introspective and blunt lyricism. Laidback synth soundscapes and warm instrumentation weave into lush arrangements, welcoming you in with a rich mix of vintage synth tones and breezy indie pop style. Yet, even as the track’s instrumental palette offers sunny pop flourishes, the lyrics take a darker turn, detailing intergenerational struggles with mental health. With the chorus McLean’s vocals soar above, declaring her plainspoken confessions—’I’m fucked in the head/ I’ve always been/ Everyone in my family pretty much is.'”

Country Westerns announce covers EP for Fat Possum, share video

“I’ve always been a fan of both Half Japanese and Teenage Fanclub, I was lucky enough to find this record,” the band’s Joseph Plunket says. “I feel like it became an anthem for our band. It reminds me of AC/DC’s ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock N’ Roll).’ It’s a more positive song than I could ever write. I love it and I hope we did it justice.”
