EMERGING ELECTRONIC PRODUCER DEFSET SHARES NEW CUT ‘SHIRA2’

Named after a camp on Mt. Kilimanjaro – the track features field recordings captured by DEFSET during his trip. It is another fine example of DEFSET’s analog and modular approach to electronic music – resulting in lush, energetic and enigmatic textural sounds.

Maple Glider announces debut album on Partisan Records; Listen to almost-love song “Swimming”

Maple Glider is the project of Tori Zietsch (pron. like ‘peach’ with a z), and on To Enjoy is the Only Thing she compiles a striking set of vignettes from her life; growing up in a restrictive religious household, falling in and out of love, cross-country and international travel, longing, alienation, and more. Moments both unremarkable and life-altering, but always deeply felt, brought to vivid life by the beauty of Tori’s artistry and wry sense of dark humor.

Meet Yamato, the Japanese DJ/producer who has redefined CDJ mixing

Meet Yamato, an impossibly highly skilled DJ and producer from Japan who has redefined the boundaries of CDJ mixing. Over the course of his career, Yamoto has been blessed by the late DJ Avicii, and, more recently, contributed tracks for Konami’s ‘beatmania’ games. Yamato’s latest track, ‘Blaze’, has been featured in a campaign to attract visitors to the city of Nagoya.

Just two years after his DJ debut, Yamato took first place in the ‘burn WORLD DJ CONTEST 2013 JAPAN’ competition, which was sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company. Soon after, during the ‘burn STUDIOS RESIDENCY’ global contest held in Ibiza, Spain, he was selected by superstar DJ Avicii to co-star at the ‘burn YARD in Budapest’ festival in Hungary, becoming the first Japanese artist to perform with Avicii. Since then, Yamato has been a fixture at clubs and large festivals in Japan and around the world.

The Metal Band, Magg Dylan, have released their next single/video “Pawns” with Eclipse Records (4/9). At times the greatest expression of frustrations bleeds itself over into lyrics, vocals, strings, and a beat. “Pawns” is that collection that rides itself through the metal power of who Magg Dylan is – their music sets a standard. Mabe Fratti Announces New Album ‘Será que ahora podremos entendernos?’ Out 6/25

Originally from Guatemala, Fratti is now based in Mexico City and Será que ahora podremos entendernos? was created and recorded at La Orduña—an artist loft converted from an old juice factory in Veracruz, MX—throughout the spring of 2020. While her 2019 debut LP, Pies Sobre la Tierra, introduced the world to Fratti’s lush & hypnotic cello compositions, earning acclaim from The Wire, The Guardian, XLR8R, Bandcamp, and more, Será… finds a space for lyrical invention, elevating her otherworldly creations to new heights. The album’s title translates as Will we be able to understand each other now?, and Mabe explains its central theme explores human issues with communication: “The everyday act of communication is contradicted by the idea that communicating with others, and yourself, is never simple: it’s ultimately an absurd desire to want to be absolutely understood yet we insist to be because we have this human desire for connection.”

Orla Gartland Tackles Toxic Masculinity on “Zombie!”

Of the track, Orla shares: “’Zombie!’ is about repressing emotions until one day they burst out of you all at once. Specifically it’s about a very common, very male kind of repression I witnessed in a boy I loved once – I could see that he felt things but there was a barrier stopping him from expressing them. I hated that for him, it made me so angry at the societal pressures that led him to that place. For me living “like a zombie” became a metaphor for this way of living; someone so seemingly unemotional on the surface they barely seem alive. I scream my head off in the outro of the song and that scream is meant to feel like a huge release, like the moment you let it all out.”

Adrian Crowley Releases “Bread and Wine”

Today Adrian Crowley releases “Bread and Wine” with a hand-drawn storybook music video by Crowley featuring a cast of anthropomorphic characters and harmony vocals by Katell Keineg. A folk sea ballad with elegant strings and gentle guitar, Bread and Wine is an ode to outcasts (“The stray dogs here follow me around / they seem to know their kind”). “Bread and Wine” is the second single from Crowley’s forthcoming John Parish produced LP The Watchful Eye of The Stars, out April 30th, 2021.

Tōth shares starkly autobiographical new song & fantastical video for “Guitars Are Better Than Synthesizers for Writing Through Hard Times”

“This a song is about writing songs. The lyrics are from a diary entry I made for a songwriting magazine pretty much word for word. I turned it into a song as a sort of joke to myself and I guess it kept being funny to me. The music video picks up autobiographically where the song’s story leaves off: Butterfly and Bumble Bee fall in love but Grim Reaper shreds and messes things up and escorts Butterfly back to the cocoon. Moral of the story: Growth is not linear and sometimes you gotta go back to the cocoon. Ok bye. <3” Alex Toth

VIISIONS has arrived…

My debut LP, VIISIONS, is officially out in the world. It’s a collection of songs that, through their evolution, took on a character and accompanying narrative.

This record is a cosmic journey through the beauty and mystery of time and space in search of pure consciousness and understanding.

The first album (Under Grape Leaves) was very much about building a home, the second one (Croak in the Weeds) was about living in it and this new one, Further Up Island is about leaving it and exploring, packed with plenty of Ethier’s tongue-in-cheek humour akin to Randy Newman, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and that ilk of songwriter.

Groove-Charged “Planet B” from Indie Electronic Fried Monk x beautiful-fortune

For over a decade Kozinski, under the moniker “Fried Monk,” has been creating dusty boom bap and downtempo electronic tracks in Philadelphia, where he is also the co-owner of Sleepless Sound recording studio. It was there that he began working with Farruk (who was recording under the nome de plume “beautiful-fortune” and his melodious alternative indie-rock releases. Being so familiar with each other’s music, Here As One flowed quickly and instinctually from their minds to the recording, giving the three-song collection the confident drive of two artists who know how to highlight their distinct sounds.

Alt-metal rockers MAGG DYLAN express frustration in new “Pawns” music video & single

“This song has a very deep meaning for us, and it is a lot heavier than most of the songs from our full-length Amethyst” says lead singer Suzanne De Iulio. “We shot this video exactly 365 days after we shot Delusional with the same director – Digital Thunderdome and they are masters of their craft. The School Bus Graveyard was a perfect location for this video because it signifies abandonment, and I think this really conveys the overwhelming emotions in the song. This was our first experience with a drone camera and that was epic, making for some big shots.” Bassist Les Moseley adds, “it was a bone-chilling day and night… freezing! If we were doing anything outside of something for this band it certainly would have been in our top 5 most miserable days because I could feel every degree of that day through every little rip in my jeans and I can only imagine how Suzie felt. Thankfully, Scott, Desiree and the rest of the crew kept us on point and handled everything so professionally. I don’t think we could’ve managed without them!”
