LISTEN: Nala Brings Acid + Deep House to DIRTYBIRD in ‘Psychic Attack’ EP

DIRTYBIRD welcomes Nala to the flock with ‘Psychic Attack’—a double-sided composition that fuses her penchant for indie electro sonics into house.

Per usual, Nala’s voice is the quintessential element in both tracks. The namesake “Psychic Attack” embodies the off-kilter sonics the fledgling artist is known for, manifesting in a toughened house canvas. The weight of its low end fits well with the track’s subject matter, which covers the government and mass media’s manipulation of the mind. Meanwhile, the environmentally oriented “Sun Is Hot” is the deeper cut of the two, taking on loungey atmospherics while hypnotizing listeners with a strong bassline and sharp percussion.

Jonny Kosmo shares new single/video “Firely” & announces sophomore LP via Glide Magazine; ‘Pastry’ is out on 6/4

Regarding some of the background behind the single/video, Kosmo stated: “Firefly is a manically funked-out song about the archeology of hope. It leads with the assumption we all have an inner glow, an inherent resourcefulness. At times we have to dust off the artifacts to reconnect. The fossilization of our lived experience is an invitation to be unpacked in learning to get out of our own way. I’ve always felt there is so much to learn from nature and bugs. Taking time to slow down and bring mindful curiosity to their presence always yields something new for me. The song features a freakishly twisted synth solo from Tomas Dolas (Oh Sees/Mr. Elevator) as well as an outro composition from Logan Hone. The music video created by Salvador Cresta.”
