Raquelle aka Rocky is a Latinx (Puerto Rican and Cuban) singer, songwriter and producer based in Brooklyn. After graduating from NYU and delving into the world of production, Rocky began her musical transformation. Drawing her sound from an ethereal rich cosmos, she began concocting her potion of purples and blues, flowers and stars. From a 300 sq. ft room, Quelle Rox was born. Today she announces her debut EP ‘Lilac Rush’ and shares “No Surprises” with FLOOD Magazine.

As an overall concept, the ‘Vacation’ EP is a mediation on what it means to escape from routine. Whether it’s a physical getaway or just being with someone who makes you feel at your best is up to the listener’s personal interpretation. “For us, ‘Vacation’ is us trying to be our best to our partners, friends, families, and a reminder to enjoy ourselves,” Foley write. “It’s us being confident in our creativity and aspiring to be better.”

Tulliah first unveiled ‘Just My Type (A Little Bit Lonely)’ from the new EP at the end of last year, which saw her land a spot in The Independent’s Ones To Watch list for 2021. ‘Distant Dreams’ was the second taste from Fre$h Hugs; a song written as a reminder not to break away from personal dreams and visions for the future. The single saw Tulliah gain further support from Wonderland, tmrw, FAULT and The Independent.

Honing their sound for 2021, ‘Hate Love’ combines rousing piano chords and a slick Garage bassline with S.E.N’s ultra-smooth vocals. The track is the first of many singles from the duo this year and follows their recent remix of the KAMILLE and S1mba single ‘AYO!’.

With the grooving track, vocalist Leona Farrugia takes on the life of a fish in order to get away from it all and traverse the seas, with her aim specifically on her homeland Malta. She chants passionately through her mackerel mission as the song and journey unfold.
Farrugia says of the track: “I think Mackerel’s Funky Mission is an escapism mechanism…. you sort of pretend to be someone else – in this case a fish – to escape from a current situation. It’s fun to pretend you’re something else and write from that perspective. It was also inspired by the lockdown as I wanted to be a fish just to be able to travel, and also by my love for the sea. I tried to be as visual as possible with the lyrics and the story.”

According to lead singer Faris Badwan, “Lout is about the relationship between choice and chance, compulsive risk-taking and pushing your luck. As a band, particularly live, we’ve always had an aggressive side and as we began writing new songs it became clear that we were heading in that direction.”
Rising French-Asian Artist and Activist Thérèse Shares Debut EP ‘Rêvalité’
The EP title, Rêvalité, explains Thérèse; is a word I invented, a mix between “rêve” (= dream) and “réalité” (= reality) and also a mix between “rêve” (= dream) and “alité” (= bedridden). It perfectly represents the surreal Covid19 pandemic life, during which humanity has been floating between a dream (or a nightmare) and real life. Even if the themes of the songs are quite strong, the word Rêvalité sounds hopeful, as the aim of this EP is to encourage people to face reality in order to be aware and ready to re-build our future.
