Amici says, “I write all kinds of songs: relationship songs, character songs, story songs, Christmas songs, etc. This is my serial killer song. I had the title, the melody and the chords worked out awhile back. Then, about a year ago, I came across a horrid photo of a girl taken by the guy who was about to kill her. I wish I hadn’t seen it, but that image fit the mood and threatening tone in the music and inspired the lyrics.”

It’s an intimate window into Rosie’s life, encased in a vulnerable kind of indie-pop.
About the song, Quick states: “This song was, in some ways, the most collaborative and organically arranged one on the EP; I played it live with the band for years before recording it, and the arrangement came together slowly over time. I think (or hope) it sounds a little like that in the recording—like all of us playing in a room together—because the song relies so much on the energy that comes from all of us feeding off each other. It’s a song about a shitty thing that happened, but it became one of the most fun to play because of the people I make music with.”

On Friday, Nashville-based duo Airpark released their new EP, Quiet Type: an Intimate Collection of New & Old. With this EP, the band extends their team spirit to a wider circle of partners, tapping frequent collaborator Scott Hundley as their producer and lacing the songs with contributions from upright bassist Byron House (Robert Plant, Patty Griffin), pedal steel guitarist Spencer Cullum (Miranda Lambert, Steelism), and guest vocalists like Erin Rae, Valley Queen, and Nightingail. The result is a record that stands in low-key defiance of the isolated feelings that permeate the COVID-19 era, while also highlighting the exploration and musical diversity at the core of Airpark’s work. Quiet Type: an Intimate Collection of New & Old may be tranquil, but these songs still speak volumes.

HONGO FUU Keep It Anything But Simple On ‘Fuu
Fuu is the first full-length album by the Costa Rica based band Hongo Fuu, after the previous independent release of two EPs. Fusion and experimentation are where the album is rooted; as a catalyst of the insights from each of the four members of the band, Fuu is the final product of this “ontology of becoming” alchemical process. It’s a manifestation from melding their diverse individual cosmic visions, poured into a 12-track album with lyrics in Spanish, English, German and Latin text quotations, and which defies the labels of music genres into a more experimental and visceral approach to music.
