Amigo The Devil Releases New Single “Murder At The Bingo Hall”

“Murder At The Bingo Hall” is a tongue-in-cheek, first person account of a fiercely competitive, and somewhat paranoid, gamer who takes his bingo a little too seriously. While the title of the track may imply a possible homicide, the figurative murder signifies the protagonist’s triumph over his opponents with his weapons of choice, the dabber and the bingo card. The intensity of the rhythm builds as he inches closer to victory one square at a time, until he jumps up and screams, “someone should call the cops! I’m killing it”. Just when he begins to feel comfortable, the momentum starts to plateau as he sings, “Then the room got quiet… My breath was still… It gave me the feeling in my chest, that tightness, that only losing everything will.

Jocelyn Mackenzie Releases Cover of Ani DiFranco’s “Joyful Girl”

“Joyful Girl” has always been my favorite Ani song, even more so after I started watching her perform it live when we were on tour together with my band Pearl and the Beard in 2012. The tune is so melancholy and the words are so hopeful, which is the perfect marriage of what it means to love ourselves – it’s not easy, and it’s not always intuitive, but this song gives me the feeling that making the effort to rise above my own self doubt is always worth it. It was the obvious choice as a cover to include in my first episode of Self Love Sundays on Righteous Babe Radio, and Emily Hope Price [of Pearl and the Beard] was the obvious choice of collaborators. Her cello and arrangement sing the feeling of longing and strength I hear in “Joyful Girl”‘s message, and her deep involvement on my record PUSH made this one of many collaborations with Emily even that much more joyful and powerful. – Jocelyn Mackenzie

Watch Woody and Jeremy’s “He’s Cass McCombs” video

Regarding the meaning behind the single, the band stated: “‘He’s Cass McCombs’ is a light-hearted, international funk style jaunt through a day in the life of the American master of indie, and our hero, Cass McCombs. We find Cass going to the store to buy bread (for toast) and returning home. But during this simple errand we learn many things about the mysterious troubadour’s character as well. With a second hand blessing from man himself we release this track into the world not as Woody and Jeremy but as apostles of McCombs.”
