Daydreamy YouTube Sensation – a Gen-Z Nina Persson

Jazzy chords, playful lo-fi drums and cartoon synths populate the disarming sonic world of YouTube sensation (206k subs) mimi bay’s latest single ‘no doubt’ out February 26.

Adding to her repertoire so far described by EARMILK as ‘astonishingly flawless’, ‘no doubt’ features Mimi’s sweet soft-pop vocals, intimate and vulnerable, ruminating on disconnection, uncertainty and self-doubt.

Dorothea Paas (ffo: U.S. Girls, The Weather Station, Jennifer Castle) | Announces debut album with first single

Anything Can’t Happen feels far more mature and complex than the title of a “debut album” would let on, partly due to Paas’s experience of writing, recording, and performing over the years but also with its smart content which explore Paas’s approach to spirituality/religion (Paas grew up in a religious household) and what it means in her music. This first single looks at trust and the three levels which it arrives in – relationships, the self, and our existential trust in the future, questioning these uncertainties and replicating that tension/curiosity in her music (eg, the repetition of “anything can happen at any time” growing ever tense with each repetition). Outside of the tension, her music underpins some of these meditations arriving as something drifting and introspective between the harder refrain.

“Deadlines’ is about the end of days,” explains DEFSET; “writing this in my bunker when the world felt like it was ending, I guess it took on a sombre, dark tone. Damien Jurado is returning today with the announcement of his third album in the past 12 months, The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania. Along with the news of a new album Jurado is sharing his first foray into label running with the aptly named Maraqopa Records. The first single from Jurado’s new album, “Helena”, is a slightly jaunty folk ballad with all the trappings of a Jurado classic that gets to the heart of the prolific songwriter’s quarter century of art. “Helena” seems like a piece of ephemera, but the moment is captured so precisely by Jurado, who drills so deeply into the quotidian that he’s able to find the purely affecting humanity in its depths.

PWNT (ffo: Jacco Gardner, Drugdealer) | Shares new single, “Shortcuts”

Although fairly new to releasing his own solo material under PWNT (an acronym for Play What’s Not There, the Miles Davis quote), Kosta has been a sideman for over a decade now, performing as one half of Hether and as a drummer with the likes of Joni, Adam Lambert, and Magic Giant, playing spots at Cocahella and Bottlerock along the way. His new music is a segue from these sounds, however, finding him wrap this warm-hued, woozy, psych-pop sound around cascading vocals, painting a sonic picture that is kind of exactly how you’d imagine a record that is recorded between Miami and LA to sound. These gloriously washed out guitar tones and swooning synths outline the aesthetic of the music and where Kosta’s sound is going, alongside that, there’s this super neat horn section towards the end which was recorded by Kosta’s buddy, Steven Frieder in NYC.

Hardly Art signs Marinero. Watch his debut video for “Nuestra Victoria” off Hella Love available worldwide on May 21st

On May 21st, newly-inked Hardly Art artist Marinero will release Hella Love. Using the moniker Marinero (which means “sailor” in Spanish), Jess Sylvester was drawn to this name as a means to honor his parent’s stories; his father a sailor, and his mother, a Mexican-American who grew up in San Francisco. Hella Love is an album about closing a chapter, with care and presence. It is a love letter to the city that he grew up in before relocating to Los Angeles after finishing Hella Love. This record blends many worlds from beginning to end, and as you go deeper it hits harder. It’s his goodbye to The Bay.

LUDIC – Listen to “Digital Release”

We have created a mood on “Digital Release” that is funky and fun, combined with more somber and sensitive moments. It’s very intimate, and seeks to capture what it feels like to get really immersed in a piece of media. You get transported.

Massachusetts-based rapper Arichussettes releases “Salute You” (ft. Rockness Monstah of Heltah Skeltah) an explosive track and music video the feels of funk era of Parliament-Funkadelic

Dripping with mags, bullets, and disco-themed bravado, Massachusetts-based rapper Arichussettes releases “Salute You” (featuring Rockness Monstah of Heltah Skeltah) an explosive track and accompanying music video that instrumentally and cinematically feels like it’s from the funk era of Parliament-Funkadelic. Arichussettes however modernizes the track by riffing about his obsession with guns and the lifestyle surrounding them.

“It’s just always been a part of my life. I shot my first gun at like seven years old … I’ve even done time in Massachusetts for having an unregistered gun,” he says.

AUTARKH Premieres New Song and Video via Outburn Magazine

Founder Michel Nienhuis comments: “A place of uncertainty can be a fertile ground if you are open to any way a situation might unfold. All might as well occur in your favor and it could feel like you don’t need to go with the flow because you are the flow. ‘Alignment’ tries to capture this most desirable form of motion, a realm where time and space are aligned. A truly astonishing state of being that ultimately leads to catharsis, self-government and independence.”

Sway Casey Stays True To Life With New Video “stained glass houses” and “autumn by the beach” EP

His latest video Stained Glass Houses is an ode to Michelle La Poetica’s weekly open mic at Walnut St. Cafe in Lynn, MA. “It was a place for both extremely talented and first time open mic-ers to share the same stage and feel the same sense of love and community” says Casey. To compliment that vibe, the visuals are shot by Sway and Conor Tadic (of Elevated Media) while they enjoy some recreational pickup football. “It’s one of my all time favorite things to do so we decided that partnering this upbeat and meaningful song with the fun and lightheartedness of a pickup football game was a fun combo. I wanted to make something that is 100% true to my life. No script, no exaggerations, no bullsh*t; just the real me” says Casey. The song is featured on the Autumn By The Beach EP produced entirely by Sway himself along with additional production and engineering by Mertz. The project is inspired by the feeling of being both happy and sad at the same time. “I knew I needed to expand upon that feeling. For the most part, these songs are more downbeat and chilled out than anything, but in the end, they all leave off on a hopeful note” says Casey. Check out Stained Glass Houses on YouTube and Autumn By The Beach on your preferred digital streaming provider now.
