Reuben Koops | ‘Like the Movies’ – NEW SINGLE
After a three year hiatus, Reuben Koops is back with a stunning new single Like the Movies, due for release on December 10. The modest, yet captivating acoustic track is a departure from more recent band-oriented material; back to his singer/songwriter roots.
Speaking of the creative process, Reuben explains, “this song was about relating to some of my earlier songs that were just acoustic guitar and vocals; keeping those elements at the forefront. Songs have to be strong enough that they don’t need too many bells and whistles to be ‘a good song’. I worked with Jack McLaine (Sumner) to engineer the track. We recorded as little as possible and relied on those organic elements. I think we’ve been able to achieve what we wanted whilst still featuring some great musicians on the track to support it”.

03 Greedo Recruits Wiz Khalifa for “Substance (We Woke Up)” (Remix)
Blessed with a supernatural sense of melody, the legend of 03 Greedo has only grown larger during his time in prison. Tapping a rap superstar to remix a career highlight, the L.A. living legend shares “Substance (We Woke Up)” ft. Wiz Khalifa. A woozy and romantic rap ballad with a languid Beat Boy instrumental, the softly-sung “Substance” is a showcase for Greedo’s taffy-like vocal runs and instinctual approach to songwriting. The atmospheric beat is a perfect fit for Wiz Khalifa’s sensibility, the rapper’s pure tenor cutting through the haze during his weeded-out, playalistic verse.

MA’s Nico Hustle & J Montez Present A Grim Over The Top Video “Wrist’
Revere MA’s Nico Hustle teams up with Boston’s J Montez for an over the top grim visual Wrist. The video is directed by Nico himself and is shot by Cam Brady with a short film vibe. The inspiration and concept comes from the the slang term Drip. “Today we use the word “Drip” as a reference to being fresh and looking fly but in this song we flipped it saying that the real drip is what we are doing! Our hustle, our talent , and our motives is the real drip. The drip they wanna see is us killing ourselves for this music and journey as an independent artist. That’s where the darkness of the video comes out” says Nico. Be advised this video isn’t for the squeamish and may be offensive to some so please proceed with caution on YouTube.

“Losing Too Is Still Ours” extends from rippling guitar figures and keening vocals to methodic, marching strings. The song title stems from a Rainer Maria Rilke poem of great personal import. Fittingly, the song arrives alongside a self-directed dreamlike music video which evokes poetic imagery of interpersonal experiences, isolation, memory, mystery and transformation.

FROM MIKE D TO CHOP STICKS, WARBLY JETS BREAK DOWN ‘LOW RESOLUTION’
“One late Friday night I was at the studio trying to write lyrics,” explains Shea, “and there was a massive party happening in the loft next door. That crowd was spilling into the hallway and the sound was carrying into the studio. Normally that would bother me, but I remembered that a friend had told me when he did some sessions with Mike D (Beastie Boys) that he would hang an SM57 out a window in NYC and record street noise to use. Instead of telling them to be quiet I thought why not hang a 57 on the doorknob of the front door to the studio and put them on the track! I recorded and layered a few ‘takes’ of the captured sound, and it ended up creating a feeling of being at a party that we loved.”

UK art-rock, Mush (Memphis Industries-signed ffo: Shame, Stereolab) | Share new single “Hazmat Suits” & album out Feb 12
Thematically, Lines Redacted, sets a different tone from Mush’s 2020 debut, 3D Routine (tipped in Rough Trade’s Best Albums of 2020 and at Stereogum, KEXP, BBC 6, Loud & Quiet, Uncut, Q, Paste, DIY, etc) – the first record was very much a product of its environment – in part sculpted by the band’s often chaotic live shows with Girl Band, The Lovely Eggs and Stereolab – looking to weigh in on the very real socialist option that was on the table in the UK at the time, this new one is something of the present-day dystopia, documenting the redacted and confusing environment that we now live in. Dan Hyndman, the main songwriter of the band, has written the album – dubbed a “Manifesto for Misinformation” – it poses as a sarcastic reflection on the world around us using cynicism as a form of coping mechanism with a razor-sharp.

Lazy Eyes announce second EP | Share mind-bending video to “Where’s My Brain???”
‘Where’s My Brain???’ is the first taste of The Lazy Eyes’ next chapter, a leap further into the driving rhythms of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, the woozy, left turns of Pond and the slow-burn of Black Sabbath. Their most distorted release to date, crisp drums and bass illustrate their hypnotic, polymetric adventures over dual guitar harmonies. Taking their improv impulses further than before, ‘Where’s My Brain???’ is unabashedly unkempt and distilled in its purest form. “We always end the live shows with this one, it’s so fun and loose,” The band share. “Even if our pedalboards have melted and our amps have caught fire, we always trust this song to bring it home,” laughs Itay.
