I wrote “It Slips Away” while driving down an old dirt road in my home province of Prince Edward Island. Seeing an old piece of farm equipment with “NEW IDEA” painted on it led me to write the lyrics, “I saw a new idea, it was rusting in the rain.” These words form the crux of the song.

Directed by longtime visual collaborator Miles Skarin, the video uses deep fake technology (DeepFaceLab) so that Wilson’s face is warped into those of a series of iconic (and occasionally infamous) celebrities including (among others) Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Zuckerberg, Brad Pitt and David Bowie (to name a few). The effect is equal parts mesmerizing and disturbing, questioning the nature of identity in an age where everything is so easy to fake. Helen Ballentine – who records as Skullcrusher – is quietly, but firmly, securing her position as one of the country’s most exciting young songwriters.
