“Hear That Courage and Determination”- BEAMS Share “Born To Win”

We can’t stop listening to Toronto based psychedelic-folk band, Beams. American Songwriter debuted the video for the band’s lead single “Born To Win” off their upcoming album ‘Ego Death,’ out on March 26th 2021.
‘Ego Death’ works as a narrative song-cycle chronicling songwriter, Anna Mernieks-Duffield challenges with mental health and her journey towards self-acceptance. “Born To Win” is an intensely energizing track combining the band’s folk roots, psyched out fuzz, and gorgeous vocals harmonies.

“You can hear that fear in “Born to Win,” but you can also hear that courage and determination. There’s something literally life-affirming—and self-compassionate—in Mērnieks-Duffield’s repeated insistence, in the song’s bridge, that ‘I was born.’ It’s one of those reckonings that begets further reckonings.” -American Songwriter

Nightly Releases ‘night, love you. (alt EP)’

For the poignant track ‘older’, Nightly gives everyone a taste of what we’re missing the most — live music — by releasing a live version of the reflective song.

In speaking about the track, Sarcastic Sounds recalls: “‘change ur mind’ began as a voice note over a year ago. I recorded it last March, but let it sit around for a while not thinking much of it. My manager sent it to Claire, who did an amazing verse for it and made me realize the song could be really special. Then my label suggested getting Clinton on it, who killed it and made the song complete. What I think is so cool about this track is that everyone takes a turn singing the different parts in their own way and interprets them differently. I also appreciate having two actual singers on the song to make up for my voice. :)”
