Toledo Share New Single “Dog Has Its Day”

Toledo, aka the Brooklyn-based duo of Daniel Alvarez and Jordan Dunn-Pilz, today shared their new single “Dog Has Its Day,” an introspective, mellow song that looks back at a relationship once the dust has settled. “’Dog Has Its Day’ is about the lull after the initial chaos of a breakup. It’s about the time where you play detective, trying to piece together exactly what it is that brought you here,” explains the band. “Ultimately, it’s beyond the point, and you try to let things play out as they will.” The song is the third (following the gentle, yet uneasy “It’s Alive!” and the dreamy, wistful first single “Challenger”) released ahead of the band’s forthcoming EP, Jockeys of Love. Mixed and co-produced by Jorge Elbrecht (Wild Nothing, No Joy, Frankie Rose), the EP is due out February 12th, 2021.

LA Political Punks TOTAL MASSACRE Release Fiery New Single “Get Rich Or Try Dying”

Southern California punks Total Massacre, a self-described band of “anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-capitalists,” have just dropped a raging and politically charged new track titled, “Get Rich or Try Dying.”

Of the track, singer Cap’n No-Fun says, “Get Rich or Try Dying started like most of our songs do, with a suggestion for a funny song title (this time from our drummer Tommy) combined with the unshakeable sense that literally everything has been fundamentally stacked against us. So not exactly new territory for us as far as songwriting goes but I feel like this one does a good job honing in on one of the really important points that I think is pretty important, and all too easily overlooked: That our lives are the commodity that is being bought and sold.”

The result is a set of lean, raw songs that represent the most unfiltered version of the band’s daring vision to date. Citizen have also shared Life In Your Glass World’s first single and its accompanying video, “I Want To Kill You,” a towering track that highlights the band’s ability to keep pushing their sound forward while maintaining the urgency and hooks at the core of their songwriting.

The chorus is so eager to explode that it comes in a whole measure early.”

UK art-rock trio, Mush (Memphis Industries-signed ffo: Girl Band, Stereolab) | Share new single, “Seven Trumpets”

Lines Redacted sets a different tone from their 2020 debut, 3D Routine (tipped in Rough Trade’s Best Albums of 2020 and at Stereogum, BBC 6, Loud & Quiet, Uncut, Q, Paste, DIY, etc) – the first record was very much a product of its environment – in part sculpted by the band’s often fraught live shows with Girl Band, The Lovely Eggs and Stereolab – looking to weigh in on the very real socialist option that was on the table in the UK at the time, this new one is something of the present-day dystopia, documenting the redacted and confusing environment that we now live in. We announced the record in November 2020 with the first single “Blunt Instruments” which had some nice tips at NPR, The Line of Best Fit, Brooklyn Vegan, Alt Citizen, Loud & Quiet, etc – it also bagged the 6 Music playlist and was tipped by Jack Saunders at Radio 1 (tipped the band as his “Next Wave”).

Marty Stuart Shares New Song “I’ve Been Around” Featuring Words By Johnny Cash, Part Of Cash’s Forever Words (Expanded Edition)

“I dearly love I’ve Been Around. The song and video are both filled with that unexplainable charisma that John R Cash specialized in. He was such a great writer. A true poet at heart. It’s hard to believe that he never got around to recording this song. The words are cinematic, timeless, classic JR. When John Carter Cash first presented me with the raw lyrics the music seemed to dance off the page. I instantly heard the sound of Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three in my mind. They were the north star band of my musical youth; in reality, they still are. They were my Beatles. I wanted the spirit of that group and the essence of that sound to follow me to that microphone. At the time the song was recorded the Tennessee Three’s drummer, WS (Fluke) Holland, was the last band member standing. He played on the session and brought that classic sound with him to the studio. Fluke since passed away. I’ve Been Around was to be his last recording and I will forever treasure it. The old line in Nashville is: It all begins with a song. And once again, Johnny cash knocks one out of the park from 10 million miles away.”

Teenage Wrist Share Track/Video “Yellowbelly” + New Album Out February 12

According to vocalist and guitarist Marshall Gallagher, “Yellowbelly” represents the core of Earth Is A Black Hole. “It came out early in the writing process and really informed the rest of the record,” explains Gallagher. “It’s partly about death, or the inevitability of it being a motivator for reveling in life. It’s about not letting fear, doubt or ego stop you from making connections, because the opportunity could end at any moment. I’ve personally spent a lot of time being pessimistic and isolated and whatnot, but I decided I’d rather test the limits of my love and free will. That’s going to be a lifelong endeavor I think, and will take some time to learn but it’s better than dying, knowing I didn’t try as hard as I could.”
