Harry Hains’ Message Lives On A Year After His Passing

Harry Hains (a gender-fluid visionary artist and actor best known for American Horror Story and The OA) was really extraordinary, and we have the honor of working with his family to carry on his legacy. He didn’t believe in gender or labels, so in order to create a word that he wanted to live in, Harry created this project, ANTIBOY, which is kind of an Android living in a future non-binary world with no judgement where people saw each other as just their own inner pure consciousness. ANTIBOY’s message is so important because it sits at the intersection of our culture’s ongoing conversations about identity, gender, race, self-expression and even drug addiction (something that Harry struggled with and ultimately passed from) that can often be a coping mechanism for feeling like an outsider and not “fitting in.” Harry’s personal journey and artistic vision is a pop culture conversation that ties together several crucial issues– human rights, LGBTQ equality, and America’s drug epidemic – which needs to be addressed in a wholistic manner because drug use is so often tied to mental health issues.

“True love is painful,” says Fennell. “True love fails. True love moves. We have to have faith in it for it to be real, like god. This song is about watching what we thought was true love fall apart. It’s about divorce and making the mistake of thinking you are immune to it. I got to team up with some friends to record this one, including a new friend, Paul Meany, who brought an amazing flavor to the mix.”

His sound is a combination of 2 worlds. He’s taken the foundations of boombap hip hop and added the growl of bass music. As a live performer, he’d always incorporated both genres – but shortly before lockdowns and quarantines began, he’d taken time to focus and develop his own signature sound.
