BTS’ New Album BE (Deluxe Edition) Arrives Worldwide Today
BTS is returning to unfold another story with the new album BE (Deluxe Edition) at midnight November 20 EST.
This one of a kind record comes in a different format from its precedents and consists of total 8 tracks: lead single “Life Goes On” along with “Fly To My Room”, “Blue & Grey”, “Skit”, “Telepathy”, “Dis-ease”, “Stay” and “Dynamite”.
BTS opens themselves up to express their mixed feelings about this situation—fear and anxiety mingled with the determination to overcome all this. The album contains the band’s emotions and ruminations they had throughout this year, and the story of “us” continuing the existential journey. That is also the reasoning behind the album’s title, BE, that stands for “to be” or “existence” and does not abide by any form.

Their tortured melodies produce mechanical and resonant emotions to the listener, definitely absorbed by their sonic invitation. Shot at Bronson Club (Ravenna, Italy) by Claudio Stanghellini during a post lock-down release party, “Maledetti and Marnero” blends live footage, majestic peaceful natural landscapes and crushing big waves. It sounds like a relief, a breath of fresh air and freedom following anxiety and suffering.

Sturle and his brother Sjur put together the record between themselves over the last couple of years, using over 40 different and unique instruments to create this sound – more details on these in the press release, but they include Zimbabwean finger harps, Armenian duduks and Norwegian billy goat horns – whilst exploring an array of different themes such as their mother’s indigenous Sami ancestry and Norse Paganism. The album was recorded across various locations which, to me, help establish some of the album’s themes and sounds – these spots include abandoned industrial estates in Russia, Soviet Navy ships in Eastern Europe, a remote lighthouse in the North Sea and the Norwegian mountaintops.

Driven by the dynamic and evocative lead-guitar playing of Joshua Voce and backed by the powerful rhythm section of Simon Wood (Drums) and Steven Angell (Rhythm Guitar), with Colin Andrews joining on Bass, Malcura create music for the soul; it’s a feeling as much as it is a sound.
