Miranda and the Beat announce Third Man Records 7″, share video

“The world has been through a lot in the past six months, and the music and art that will emerge will certainly reflect the times,” said the band’s Miranda Zipse. “I am excited to see the creative ways that artists adapt and reinvent their mediums and processes due to limited resources. ‘Such a Fool’ was written before COVID, but I made the music video in quarantine at home in New York City. Being very limited in what I could do with the resources I had forced me to create something I would have never normally created.”

Singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine premieres live video for “I Knew” today!

The track appears on McAlpine’s debut album Give Me A Minute, which is out now—American Songwriter recently featured McAlpine on an “Acts You Need To Know” profile while Indie Shuffle adds, “Lizzy McAlpine has a rosy voice, similar to the whisper-like voices of Dodie and Birdy. And on top of her main vocals, the misty backup ones are insanely soothing. While cranking the volume up slightly louder, they ease you into the song, adding a key layer. They also match the song’s theme of someone fading away.” That Music Mag furthered, “Lizzy McAlpine, is one to be excited about.”

GENUS ORDINIS DEI – New single HUNT off latest album GLARE OF DELIVERANCE

Glare of Deliverance is the band’s third full-length album, and it was produced by Tommaso Monticelli (Jumpscare, Eternal Delyria, Geschlecht) at SonitusStudio. Glare of Deliverance is a series of ten individual songs, each with its own music video/episode. These episodes combine in sequence like a short film or television series that tells the story of a young woman named Eleanor who is persecuted by the Holy Inquisition. Without a doubt, this was the band’s most ambitious undertaking yet, because the scope and vision of the project had grown monumentally huge in comparison to their previous projects. Aside from recording and producing, the band had to pull together a full production team for the video series which consisted of concept artist Tom Roberts (Ghost), costume designers, animal trainers, a cast of actors and actresses, visual effects supervisors, special effects wizards, stuntmen, and even a full orchestral choir. Despite the difficult health conditions of the first half of 2020, the scheduled deadlines were all met and the result is an epic masterpiece of symphonic metal combined with the executed artistic vision of four brilliant musicians.

Psymon Spine shares new music video for “Milk” (feat Barrie)

Bandmember Noah Prebish explains how they got the idea: “We were trying to come up with a way to shoot a music video together during a pandemic, with Sabine stuck in Germany and Barrie being god-knows-where. I remembered that my sister is a genius wizard and Nintendo dork and thought: ‘what’s more quarantine than a hap-hazard Animal Crossing video organized via a bunch of confusing Zoom calls?'” The video’s director, Maya Prebish, adds: “When Noah came to me with the idea, I jumped onboard right away. It was a lot of fun turning Psymon Spine and Barrie into villagers, and I think it was a super fun way to bring everyone together even though they’re dispersed all over the world at the moment. I don’t think any of them know how to fish in real life, but that’s creative license.”

Mourning The Passing of Mr. Toots Hibbert

VP Records joins family, friends and fans as we collectively mourn the passing of Reggae icon Frederick Nathaniel ‘Toots’ Hibbert.

Toots first became widely known in 1966 for his recording of the song “Bam Bam” which won the Jamaican Independence Festival Popular Song Competition. That success was followed by “Do The Reggae” (the first song to ever include the word Reggae and name the genre), “Pressure Drop,” “Sweet and Dandy” and “54-46 That’s My Number.”

In the 1980’s, Ska and Rocksteady became very popular, and at the center of that sound was Toots and the Maytals. Toots voice, and The Maytals sound, which Chris Blackwell is quoted as saying “were unlike anything else … sensational, raw, dynamic” was paired with the legendary rock band The Who for a North American tour in 1975 to 1976. Their song “Monkey Man” was covered by the UK group The Specials and The Clash covered their hit song “Pressure Drop.”
