Kaio Mars (American Pets) shares solo debut “All I Need,”

Kaio Mars explains, “The song is about finding the joy in music again. Having felt kind of jaded about the whole songwriting process I thought it would be helpful to put myself in the shoes of my 5,6,7 year old self again — dancing around in the living room with my parents and my sister strumming a toy guitar my parents had bought for me. We used to do this thing as a family where my dad would put on some Bob Marley records and I would strum my guitar, sing along, and pretend I was putting on a concert for the family. It’s about letting go of the unnecessary and surrendering to only the essential.”

Chima releases late-night brooder “still jaded”, listen on Earmilk

On the video, directors Anne Sofie Madsen & Anders Christiansen write: “We shot the video during the early stages of the COVID 19 lockdown. While the 3 of us were quarantined on the island Møn. It’s sort of a creative exploration of the strangeness we felt, being completely isolated. The feeling of having all the time in the world, coupled with a dystopic unease of not knowing where things were heading. It unfolds as a series of unhurried snapshots – a variety of uncanny juxtapositions. The video itself is a plotless portrait of a drifter. A dreamlike pastiche of the “young dude in search of enlightenment” genre. We think that these themes and imagery suit this beautiful song well.

Bounding along with maximum energy from the onset, ‘Mr. Prism’ is relentless in its approach – a fiery reminder of the type of band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have grown into over the last few years on the road. For McEwan, the song was born out of the feverish haze only illness and a crazy tour schedule can bring: “After our last tour of Europe I had a plethora of reasons to see a doctor. First, he thought I had tonsillitis, so prescribed me penicillin, which didn’t help at all. I did Falls Festival over New Year’s and barely got through – turns out I had pneumonia. I was pushing through on all sorts of meds until someone offered me the HMS Hunter alternative and I realised no matter how I’d ever be, I could never turn one down. Mr. Prism (my sickly fun-fuelled fiend of an alter-ego) was born.”
