OKAN share “Mercedes”

Featuring Cuban rapper Telmary Diaz, pianist Hilario Duran, and trumpet-player Alexis Baro, “Mercedes” includes elements from a genre called Pilón; a rhythm that is native to, but seldom played in Cuba today. OKAN want to help preserve this near-extinct sound, which came to life in the ’50s and ’60s, taking rhythm cues from the motions of workers pounding sugarcane and coffee beans. The narrative of the song is painted with double entendres; it’s a story about Mercedes, a beautiful Cuban woman who trades favors to different people. It describes a very realistic picture of the struggles Cuban people face today, and the Cuban way of discussing these topics with a dark sense of humor.

Kyd the Band Announces New EP ‘Season 3: The Realization’

Throughout the track Guisande tries to break free of his mental prison to finally overcome past relationships. Instead of remaining trapped in old memories and endless brain loops, the song encourages to keep your head up and positively push forward against the odds. The new single is just another example of Kyd the Band’s unabashed honesty in his lyrics and broad range across his collection. With each season, Devin reveals more of himself as he finds the confidence to delve deep into his tumultuous past from a socially isolated childhood, to leaving his home and family; overcoming a drug overdose to then finally finding solace in music and healthy relationships.
