“Save Myself” sees Ashe’s distinctive, self-possessed style and sound on full display, with nods to her strong influences including The Beach Boys and Carole King. The song builds on the foundation of sparkling piano, layered melodies and an infectious chorus resulting in an instantly memorable earworm. Produced by Jason Evigan (Maroon 5, Demi Lovato, Madonna), the song was co-written by Ashe, Evigan, Casey Smith, and Michael Pollack. Finding inspiration from The New York Times Magazine’s “1619 Project,” James Weldon Johnson’s “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” as well as the work of historian Taylor Branch, Grammy-award winning pianist, singer and songwriter Bruce Hornsby debuts “Bright Star Cast.” The song features vocals from Chicago-based Jamila Woods, guitar from Vernon Reid (Living Colour) and several of his new musician friends from Eau Claire, WI and Minneapolis. “This attempt marks the seventh song of my career that deals with the issue of race in America, a deep, seemingly intractable problem that never seems to be solved in any satisfactory way- until, hopefully, now,” notes Hornsby.

Shirley Collins Shares New Song “Barbara Allen”
Ahead of the release of her new album Heart’s Ease this Friday, July 24, Shirley Collins is pleased to share “Barbara Allen,” the third single from the record. The ballad “Barbara Allen” has been loved for centuries; Collins first heard it in school and has recorded it twice before: one Appalachian version, and one English version, for which she wrote a new tune. On Heart’s Ease, Collins returns to the traditional English arrangement.

Godcaster Share “All The Feral Girls in the Universe” From Upcoming Debut LP (Rock)
The video captures the band’s energy in full, rabid form, and the track shows Godcaster’s knack for solid hooks. The images and the lyrics, written by Jud Kolk, portray scenes similar to the awry psychosexual fantasy settings in Kolk’s drawings (he creates the album and poster art, and the lyrics, all of which comprise the backing mythology, the “Godcaster world” behind the music).
