Montreal group THe LYONZ drop new ‘2nd U, Pt.1’ EP plus ‘The Jump to Jupiter’ video!

THe LYONZ are a Canadian music group and art collective largely focused upon hip-hop and electronic work. The group formed in 2013 in Montreal, Canada, consisting of Salvo (Anthony Salvo) and Norrin (Terrell McLeod Richardson). Their debut album ‘Peace Beyond The Pines’ was released in 2015, leading them to perform various shows in Canada and landing a spot in Montreal’s 2016 international Jazz Festival. Their musical style landscapes atmospheric dynamics, conveyed through heavily processed synthetic layers, shifting drum patterns, and the blending in of treated instruments frequently met with melancholic verses. Their unique sound is often unconventional, with arrangements established by high production values, involving extensive digital editing and mixing.

Skope Mag: Cold Reading (Indie) – Three-part concept album ‘ZYT’ out January 31st!

Cold Reading are going off the beaten path for the realisation of their second album ‘ZYT’. In the form of a concept album, Cold Reading explore the subject of time both musically and lyrically, and try to approach this elusive concept from different perspectives. The album consists of three EPs – Past Perfect, Present Tense and Future Continuous, dealing with the past, the present and the future, respectively. The album, which will be released as double gatefold vinyl with interchangeable artworks, also contains an audio book, elaborating on the ‘Through the Woods’ song-trilogy, of which one song can be found on each EP.

In early 2018, Nathan Jenkins (Bullion) returned from the coast of Arrábida to his new home studio, in a cottage tucked behind the grand hotel setting of Wim Wenders’ Lisbon Story. Breaking for lunches under a Datura tree in the garden and a far cry from the Finsbury Park basement flat he rented the previous year, a set of recordings followed that galvanised into an E.P. – We Had A Good Time, music informed by out-of-town trips in a 1987 Renault 9 Super, impromptu car park hulas and solo cinema bliss.

new Mitski track for ‘The Turning Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’

The Turning Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is out this Friday, the same day as the film’s release and here’s the final single from singer-songwriter Mitski for “Cop Car”. Her first new music since the critically acclaimed album Be The Cowboy (2018) – “Cop Car” is a dark 90’s inspired track reminiscent of Pod Era Breeders meets PJ Harvey. On working with Mitski for the soundtrack producer Lawrence Rothman explains “There is a pinnacle scene where Kate’s mind starts to unravel while in her car and we needed a cinematic but / grunge influenced song shadowing the scene. I reached out to Mitski to see if she wanted to get involved as Floria and I had a feeling she would deliver a song that was guitar-based but cinematic . “Cop Car” went beyond what we imagined and we were ecstatic when she sent it to us!”

Today, Ben Seretan–acclaimed New York City based guitarist and singer-songwriter–has announced the follow-up to 2016’s Bowl of Plums with a new single, “Power Zone,” out everywhere now.

The Frogs Announce Unreleased New LP

More than a vast departure from The Frogs previous works, it’s an arrival at the beginning. It’s the “1st” original debut album. Recorded within the realms of time stamped January 1986, presents 12 songs & 8 unreleased bonus tracks. Understanding correctly, “1st” aka “Pat’s Session” was intended to be the initial release by brothers Dennis & Jimmy Flemion prior to “The Frogs” 1988 self-titled debut. Minneapolis based Twin/Tone Records (Soul Asylum, The Replacements label at the time) approached The Frogs & expressed fawning interest, extending an invitation to record the band after their 1985, 7th Street Entry live performance (First Avenue’s sister club).
