The Heliocentrics LIVE Friday 31st January 2020 London

London-based The Heliocentrics have long stirred a bewitching brew of funk, jazz, psych and library influences. Their 2007 debut album taking you ‘Out There’, described as “a funk-jazz continuum letting imaginations turn a dark corner”, laid the foundations for their 2009 magnum opus ‘Inspiration Information’ alongside Ethiopian musical legend Mulatu Astatke. Held in the highest esteem, ‘Inspiration’ was Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Album of the Year, and was later recommended by Jamie Cullum as one of ‘Five Essential Jazz Albums’ to wrap your ears around.

Grant Earl LaValley shares first single + video from forthcoming album via Exit Stencil Recordings

Desert-dwelleing songsmith, Grant Earl Lavalley, returns with “Summer Angels,” the debut track from his forthcoming album, A Brighter Day, due out in 2020. The new song was shared along with a video and a big announcement: he’s moving to LA.

Patternist’s new video “Feature’s Dead Angela”

“Feature’s Dead, Angela” is about this obsessive need to feel like you always have the moral and intellectual high ground, and how that type of grandstanding is exacerbated by social media. It’s such an emotionally and cognitively taxing state to be in, and I think it can spill over to how we form relationships outside of these online avatars. When we decided we wanted to do a video for the track, the challenge was how to take the core thesis of the song and try to add some levity to it. After working with Aaron and Anneliese on the video for “I Don’t Feel Real,” we thought only their twisted minds were the right fit to do it justice. Don’t we all sort of secretly wish there was an easy way to get people to see the world the way we do, to accept our opinions as fact and make all our interactions both on and offline easier and less stressful?”

RENCE RELEASES THE VIDEO FOR “I KNOW (FEAT. RIZ LA VIE)”

Sharing real life snapshots in song, Rence magnifies his personal perspective through a genre-less palette, bordering pop, alternative, electro, indie and hip-hop all at once, yet never dipping into one for too long. The Los Angeles-based artist, who was born in D.C., spent his formative teen years in Seattle and then moved to New York to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, first allowed listeners to hear this irresistible inner monologue on his breakthrough independent project, Pink. The project’s lead single “Baby Blue” racked up over 4 million Spotify streams as his total tally approached 8 million. Along the way, peers such as Chelsea Cutler and FLETCHER lent support as critical acclaim came from Hilly Dilly, Lyrical Lemonade, Ones To Watch, Elevator Magazine, and more. Tastemaker Zane Lowe handpicked “Ways To Go” as his “World Record” on Apple Music’s Beats 1. Rence’s current EP, Fall 2019, is out now and features standout tracks “Darkside” and “I know.”

Chicago’s The JAB Debut Music Video For Latest Single “Riot”

“We pretend to care about the kids in sweatshops… but not as much as we love our Nikes. We pretend to care about people jumping off buildings in China… but not as much as we love our new iPhones. We pretend to care about the homeless… but not as much as our next vacation. Maybe we’re a bit too comfortable… Maybe it’s time to start a Riot?”- Jam Alker (The JAB)

LA-based Multi Instrumentalist Leila Sunier – “Let Me” Video Out Now!

On the aesthetic of the video, Leila said, “The video co-stars Gibran Zahedi-Mitchell, a Venice Beach local and actor. We chose the beach for it’s sense of nostalgia – it was kind of perfect how the day was overcast, because emotionally the song doesn’t feel like a bright, sun-filled day, but more like an intimate, rainy day. It also created a lot of opportunity to capture two people’s story framed by everyone else’s. We wanted to capture something intimate between just two people, but not necessarily have it be in a closed space. The mindset was very much a day-in-the-life, but with an extremely idealized approach.”

SIFTING’s new ‘Emotionless Shells’ prog-thrash music video overcomes the limits of technical mastery

The video was directed by Zach Perez at Astral Media in a Los Angeles warehouse, and showcases the epitome of the age old saying “practice makes perfect”. “This song is mostly about the limitations we face and overcoming them through our struggles” says front man Eduardo Gil. “it’s about realizing that sometimes we fall down and fail, but we must get back up and fight!” Drummer Joey Aguirre adds “this is a fast-paced song, with technical, dueling guitar solos and intense breakdowns. We all pushed ourselves beyond our technical limits on this one, and people just have to see us play this song, so we thought what better way than shooting another video!”

TERELL HINES RELEASES VIDEO FOR “GET UP”

Hines is not only a songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer with influences as broad as Outkast, Joy Division, Four Tet, and Gullah music, but his mind isn’t quite like other people’s. It’s no wonder Berklee College of Music gave Hines a full ride, or that people’s first exposure to his vision came during a 2019 Apple Keynote— that song, the rip-roaring avant-hoedown “Get Up,” hails from St. Mark Rd. EP, and is a mere peek into the wildness that’s coming.
