Lake Jons recall and reconnect with nature on conscious-pop cut ‘Human’

LAKE JONS, hailing from Helsinki and born from the woods by the darkest waters as their namesake reflects, is comprised of Jooel Jons and Mikko Pennanen, who walk a fine line between producer-tandem and full-on band. Since their formation in 2014, the Finnish duo has come through with delicate folktronica-tinged dream-pop. Following from their self-titled debut, which the band performed on their live circuit during the last year, and championed at festivals across the Nordics as well as by Ja Ja Ja, who showcased the band across London, Berlin and Hamburg.

DUSTER shares ‘Letting Go’ off of their self-titled LP out Dec. 13 on Muddguts Records

Clay Parton, Jason Albertini, and Canaan Dove Amber make “Experimental depressed music” that feels at once immensely personal and universally atmospheric. Devotees new and old have scrambled to find and share their music for years but in 2019, Numero Group brought them back into the collective conscious with Capsule Losing Contact, a re-issue box-set that included 1998’s Stratosphere, their 1999 EP 1975, and 2000’s Contemporary Movement along with previously unreleased tracks. The boxset sold out almost overnight, as did a string of live shows no one anticipated after years of silence. Contemporary indie artists like Snail Mail and Sandy Alex G have cited Duster as an influence and asked the band to play with them at their respective shows. The bands resurgence is a testament to how timeless their music remains.

Will Samson today reveals a new single ‘Beyond the Dust’, taken from his fifth album, Paralanguage, his first for Wichita Recordings, which will be released December 6th. Listen via God Is in the TV and Soundcloud.

“‘Beyond the Dust’ originates from an old song that I co-wrote with my good friend, Heimer, way back in 2014,” Samson explains. “There was something about the chords, particularly when played on piano, that really stuck with me. It’s essentially a song to remind myself to be grateful. ‘Pray for the darkest night that brings the morning’ simply acknowledges that the difficult experiences are the ones that often bring about the most growth.”

EXPLORING BIRDSONG RELEASE DEBUT EP “THE THING WITH FEATHERS”

Piano-led British trio Exploring Birdsong released their debut EP “The Thing With Feathers” on November 29th, 2019 via Long Branch Records.

The EP is broadly speaking a concept release, centred on the Seamus Heaney poem ‘Bye Child’ and the story of Kevin Halfpenny, one of the most bizarre cases of child cruelty ever recorded. This is mirrored in the EP title and cover art, with broken backbones becoming broken wings. The title itself also references Emily Dickinson’s “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers” poem, which itself is a call-back to the music found within:

For Skope: Thomas Gold & Teamworx’s ode to electro house – “We Remember” (out on Protocol)

Electronic music icon Thomas Gold teamed up with Israeli heavyweight producers Teamworx for their new single “We Remember,” a nostalgic but hard-hitting ode to the OG of the electronic genre. Abandoning any previous penchant for melodic sounds, Gold and Teamworx employ minimalistic bass and mechanical synths to drive the track’s climb to an uncompromising drop. “We Remember” is simply made to be played on huge stages that can support the immensity of its sound, making it a guaranteed festival-friendly tune. The new release follows Gold’s Universal Music single “Get Up” with Eagle-Eye Cherry, and Teamworx’s collaboration with Dannic “Bump N’ Roll.”
