Of the song, Kiwi Jr. have said, “We came up with the concept for this song while in an Uber XL loaded up with all of our gear on the way to a gig at the Silver Dollar (r.i.p.) in Toronto – the driver was going on about how much soccer player Paul Pogba was being paid and we started thinking about the weight of “football money” as controlled, or scaled currency by which to measure things. Musically we came up with something like Superchunk meets the Clean, but I distinctly remember trying to sound early Misfits in the early demo stages.”

Brooklyn newcomer Margaux Bouchegnies, who writes and records simply as Margaux has released her brilliant debut EP More Brilliant Is The Hand that Throws the Coin out today on Massif Records.

At only 20 years old, Margaux, who on the EP plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, upright bass, piano, keyboards, bottlecap, handbells, glockenspiel, and mellotron, writes with a maturity far beyond her years drawing influence from 70’s folk-rock storytellers such as Joni Mitchell, multi-faceted musical impresario Lyle Brewer, and the incomparable David Byrne. Anthems, the seventh full-length by Swedish hardcore band Raised Fist, is out today via Epitaph Records. On this album, the band has been working together with producers Roberto Laghi & Jakob Herrmann at Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg and Oral Majority Recordings. The band focussed their efforts on just ten tracks to keep the album short and sweet and the intention clear. Frontman Alexander “Alle” Hagman insisted that all ten songs have a recognisable hook to grab the audience’s attention. “I told the boys, ‘I’m going to have a hook on every song before I leave the studio. There’s not going to be a song on this album that I leave out vocal wise.
