Refused Premiere “Economy of Death” at SPIN — LISTEN!

“The Economy of Death” is a master class in the specific type of songcraft that has made the Swedes one the most respected and celebrated bands of their generation. It contains one of their most punishing riffs and one of their most tender moments in its four-minute running time. Sharp as a shard of glass and blunt as a wrench to the temple, with echoes of German speed metal and the snarl of early punk, this mesmerizing tour de force will make the week-long wait for the record unbearable.

Music’s Lost Treasures Release Quirky ‘Making Deals’ Music Video

Somehow, through cosmic forces and mystical hiccups, it’s entirely possible you’ve been missing out on one of music’s great treasures. Following a musical lineage of power pop greats from the 60’s and 70’s, as well as the unhinged genius of the likes of They Might Be Giants and Squeeze, they have spent the last ten years cultivating a rabid fanbase and critical acclaim from publications worldwide. Over 25 tracks (15 on the vinyl edition), Something Unreal is a monolithic slab of glorious hooks and Michelle Grand’s Debbie Harry-esque vocals trading blows with Roger Houdaille’s rabble-rousing tones – if this is the first time you’ve encountered them, a technicolour world awaits you.

CHTHONIC DEITY: Death Metal Unit Featuring Members Of Scolex, Ascended Dead, And More

CHTHONIC DEITY was spawned by Erika Osterhout and Charlie Koryn when their respective bands — Scolex and Ascended Dead — played together in November 2013. Fueled by a common passion for the soul-swallowing sounds of bands like Nihilist, Sacrilege, and Stormcrow, the duo united in January 2014 to record a crude rehearsal, writing some songs on the spot. Osterhout played the demo for her bandmate in another project, Necrosic. Soon thereafter Koryn was recruited to play drums for Necrosic and CHTHONIC DEITY was put on hold.

Seasoned Power Pop Outfit The Persian Leaps Release Single “Catnip For Cupid”

“I’ve been a comic book fan since I was a kid. The phrase “catnip for cupid” actually came from the TV show, Arrow. Team Arrow was fighting a villain-of-the-week named Cupid. They needed some irresistible bait to catch her–some “catnip for Cupid.” I l the phrase and immediately wrote this song, the premise of which is that we’re all toys that Cupid can’t resist playing with–often too roughly. I don’t necessarily think that’s true, but I like the way it came together.”-Drew Forsberg

Lev Snowe premieres trippy new single “Someday Soon” via Vents Magazine

Lev Snowe spends his days tinkering away in his bedroom studio building up his psychedelic Xanadu. Raised on the warm hiss of ’70s soul jazz recordings, the slack chill of the L.A. beat scene, and the nostalgic synth swaying of Boards of Canada, this Canadian songwriter/producer creates an atmosphere that is both washed out and danceable — pensive, yet uplifting. And like a wandering mind spent cooped up all winter, Snowe’s music never sits still for too long. Lush electronics bloom around shimmering guitars and the wonky grit of ’90s era hip hop grooves, all while Snowe’s wistful lyricism drifts hypnotically in and out of focus—a carefree soundtrack fit for either chaotic house parties or those endless summer nights spent escaping reality.
