Of course, it never works out. Everyone is different; to really get to know someone, you have to embrace what makes them special.”

– Paste

“…the duo of Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer craft meticulous pop arrangements bridging the gap between Oracular Spectacular electronic psych and the corresponding guitar pop of that album’s period. With a less than subtle nod to the conversational synths of Talking Heads, “Gatekeeper” is no different.”

Spencer Yenson & the Fever – ‘Hold Me Down’

Spencer Yenson got his start in 2017 with his EP “In Fever” being released from beneath the shadows of sunny San Diego. Fast forward to modern day 2019, and you find Yenson capturing a sound and vibe that shatters new ground while retaining its classic soul and starting his recent rebranding from Spencer Yenson & the Squatters to Spencer Yenson & the Fever. The two singles “Hold Me Down” & “Buzzards” started in DIY fashion as Garage Band demos recorded on Spencer’s phone. The demos then made their way to pre-production with his bandmate Jano and finalized at legendary SD studio: Capricorn. Spencer’s voice rings true with soulful grit dwelling on matters of dark inner exploration. Yenson’s tunes naturally showcase a unique vocal range of Howling highs and bellowing lows. Hold Me Down and Buzzards are packed with moments of chill induced tension and catharsis as they project the film of Yenson’s psyche, consumed by the Fever. The music itself is both modern and nostalgic utilizing cutting edge production aligned with performances that are reminiscent of artists like The Animals, Bill Withers, and The Doors while being comparable to modern acts like Hozier and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

The Hecks share new single+vid from upcoming record on Trouble In Mind

“We stumbled through the whole thing and just leaned in on what was working. The end result reads like the contents of a VHS tape mailed to the president of Columbia Records from some kids from Valparaiso, Indiana who got grounded right after filming because mom found an empty bottle of poppers in the basement. Some forgotten relic of an aspiring nobody’s pop fantasy.” – The Hecks
