High aura’d & Josh Mason – “Lower Yr. Voice”

‘Lower Yr Voice’ captures all of the static electricity and gorgeous distortion ping-ponging between solid state amps and busted eardrums that filled sweaty basements and VFW halls in the split-seconds between songs performed by bands like Portraits of Past and Clikatat Ikatowi. This record, by two artists with their feet planted in the firma of eliding ambient/drone music, finds the two interpolating the unintended sweetness and experimentation in those between-song pregnant pauses of bands of bands flying the banner of Ebullition and Gravity Records.

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE ANNOUNCE “THE BLUE EP” HERALDED BY FIRST TRACK “KIDS IN ‘99”

“Kids in ’99” was written in tribute to three children who lost their lives in the 1999 Bellingham Olympic Pipeline explosion in Seattle, Washington. Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard reflects on the inspiration behind this track: “The Olympic Pipeline explosion in 1999 was a tragedy that really affected me while we were living in Bellingham. After all these years I felt it was worthy of its own folk song.”

Connor Morand – ’94 Corolla’

“”94 Corolla” was co-produced/co-written by myself and Jonathan Zarola, who goes under the musical moniker UNBLOOM. When Jon and I first met, it was instant chemistry. We worked so hard to bring you the final product you hear today, and we couldn’t be more proud of it.”

The Kinks announce special release of ‘Arthur Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire’

Without doubt, the Kinks 7th studio album is one of the greatest rock albums ever made, a near perfect example of Ray Davies’ incredible storytelling ability in what was an innovation in 1969: a concept album. It’s also poignant that a record based on the story of emigrating from the UK around its potential to enter the Common Market should hit its 50th anniversary right now. With Brexit on the horizon, the themes of ‘Arthur’ ring alarmingly familiar.

Royal Trux teams up with Ariel Pink for new EP

“To rock fans desperate for a real kick, the new Royal Trux album, White Stuff registers like a glitter-caked weirdo stumbling into a polite discussion about which boutique overdrive pedal best replicates the guitar sound on a particular obscure New Zealand punk album from the seventies. White Stuff is the reason why we haven’t walked out on rock ’n’ roll altogether.” – Penthouse

The Be Positives accept societal homogeneity on mad-pop single ‘Like Everyone’

New single here from Manchester-based mad-pop outfit THE BE POSITIVES – ‘Like Everyone’

THE BE POSITIVES is a northern conundrum. It features two members from Slovenly Records garage-rock outfit Proto Idiot, who’ve found support from Dork, Loud And Quiet, Louder Than War and VICE.

Of the same vein as Cut Worms, filled with Lemon Twigs-esque zest, second slice ‘Like Everyone’ flaps about with math-rock melodies and striking signatures – you never quite know where you stand – aligning it both musically and conceptually, feeding into Mike’s howls of “we’re like everyone…”

We filmed it in a very hot garage a few weeks back. Actually, the same garage the song was written in a few summers ago.”

Emily Breeze releases American Psycho inspired glossy dark pop ‘Work’

The third single from forthcoming Emily Breeze album Rituals is a shimmering indie pop anthem entitled “Work”. The glossy sonic exterior and radio friendly chorus act as a foil for the ice cold cynicism and pitch black humour of the lyrics which were inspired by Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) and Emily’s own experiences of hauling herself out of bed every morning to make a pointless profit for somebody else.

Terence Jack – ‘Found It’

“Perhaps we don’t have to look so far away to be happy. I’ve written a lot of sad songs, but “Found It” draws from a happier side of me that I’m proud to show.”
