Chicago’s R&B Ann Marie Releases Pretty Psycho — Interscope Debut Project

Hailing from the Southside of Chicago, rising R&B star Ann Marie has released a new body of work; her debut Interscope project titled Pretty Psycho. Clocking in at eleven songs with a superstar feature from Jeremih, Pretty Psycho is the follow up to Ann Marie’s Tripolar 2 project released earlier this year which shot up to #3 on the Apple Music R&B charts. Leading the charge on the album is the silky single “Throw It Back” setting the tone for what fans can expect. It precedes two monster tracks in “My Body” and “Drip” (featuring Jeremih) that reinforces Ann Marie’s signature R&B sound of equal parts grit and sexy. Ann Marie’s brilliance in songwriting is a feature throughout the project but especially so on the emotional “Touch Me” and “Decline” which features fellow Chicago artist Sonta.

New single from Carriers

John Curley (the Afghan Whigs): “My first time hearing ‘Make It Right,’ and the rest of the songs on the record, was during demo sessions in the control room at Ultrasuede. Curt and I sat at the console where he played the songs for me and showed me the chord progressions. Then we recorded simple demo versions to hear the arrangements. These became the basis for the band recordings we did later on.

Once the bulk of the recording was done, Curt did the overdubs with Isaac Karns and mixing with Chad Wahlbrink. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the final mixes. They took it to a level that was beyond what I had envisioned.

The track reminds me of the whole experience of making the record. It was very low stress; very relaxed. I hadn’t met any of the other musicians before working with Curt and they all turned out to be cool people that I now consider friends.”

Enchanting singer Nikita Bassi releases debut single ‘Satin’

Regarding the single Nikita says, “‘Satin’ was written at a time when I was trying to write love songs but had never really been in love. I was younger and had a Disney-esque idea in my head of what it would feel like. It’s funny now I’ve grown up and learnt that love is so much more complex (and beautiful) than that. I initially self-produced the track as an idea and didn’t revisit it for a while, but then I met Cores who somehow took that whole dreamy vision and planted it into the song.”
