“Neverland Ten Years After Michael’s Death”

Michael Jackson died ten years ago on June 25th and many people around the world will be commemorating his death through his music and videos. They will be celebrating his astronomical career, remembering his childhood, replay interviews and the work that went into organizing his last concert, This Is It, which he never had the chance to perform. Also to be remembered is his beloved Neverland Ranch, where he lived from 1987 until 2006. It was where he could finally experience childhood, having never experienced that luxury as part of his hard-working, family-singing group The Jackson Five. Two years after his death, Neverland was put on the market for $100 million, but never sold. Today, restored at great expense to its status as the original ranch when Michael purchased it, the estate is back on the market and reduced to $31 million.

New EP from Skells

Dinosaur Village, the new EP from Rockaway Beach’s favorite sons, Skells! The five song collection comes less than a month after the release of lead single “Foam Top”, which was the perfect track to introduce the band’s brand of instrumental surf rock that has made them such a popular staple of the burgeoning creative scene bubbling in Queens’ most beloved beach community. Dinosaur Village is a shimmering nod to the classic surf rock of The Shadows or Dick Dale – meticulously composed in a fashion that walks the line between nostalgia and modern indie rock to produce the perfect soundtrack to your backyard BBQs and surf sessions this summer.

Tummyache Shares Stunning Debut Single “In Between”

“Combining the rich tones of Sharon Van Etten and the vulnerability of Julien Baker, Bryce sounds rawer than ever on ‘In Between.’ Throwing off the armour of her more folk-indebted past, Bryce surrounds herself with fraught, meditative guitars that match the emotion present in her voice. She sounds brooding, pregnant with her own emotion, casting it off only when an army of drums transports her above the surface. Once there, a primal desire emerges, “I wanna feel better” she sings repeatedly, desperately even. Bryce might not be at her happiest but as Tummyache she’s found her true calling.” – Balloon Machine

Watch Queens, NY’s WIVES Play House Party In New Video For “The 20 Teens,” City Slang Debut LP Out 10/04

Pfeffer says, “This video was really fun to make, and the track is really reminiscent of all the music I grew up loving — Velvet Underground, Modern Lovers, Sonic Youth, etc. It reminds me of New York. I think the kind of blown out soft aspect of the old film mixed with kind of hectic animation and the footage of the band playing live make an interesting mix. It feels like a memory of something that may or may not have happened.” WIVES today also announced their next Brooklyn show at Our Wicked Lady on June 26th and a fall European tour. “I had gone to Italy by myself and wrote it in a small B&B room by the Como Lake. I guess the warm Italian summer air influenced the laid-back feeling of the song,” Nidam says of the track. “I wanted the rhythm section to have this heavy, dark, almost hip-hop-like groove to back up the clean, airy guitars and the smooth vocal melodies.”
