Today, iconic sister duo Aly & AJ release the music video for “Church,” the lead single off their forthcoming EP Sanctuary, directed by Alex Ross Perry, director/writer/producer of Her Smell, the critically acclaimed film starring Elizabeth Moss. Perry is also credited for the sister’s vampiric “Take Me” video off their 2017 EP, Ten Years, that concluded a decade long gap in their discography.
The “Church” music video is a chromatic neo-noir shot on Kodak’s 16mm motion picture film and was set at the Mayan Revival Samuel-Novarro House in Los Feliz- former home of Ramon Novarro, Diane Keaton, and Christina Ricci. As the sisters explore the home and dance about in search of redemption, they are unknowingly being watched from afar, as seen through the creepy zooms and eerie angles. Alex Ross Perry and Aly & AJ will join forces again for the visuals for the next single off Sanctuary, taking place in New York to spotlight the contrasts between the two coasts.
