Sharon Lia Band New Single ‘Why Can’t We Pretend’

Think Adele (Hello) meets Evanescence (My Immortal) in this powerful song by the Sharon Lia Band. This commanding song both lyrically and musically has its soft side and it’s rocking side with a haunting quality throughout. “Why Can’t We Pretend” strikes a chord in all of us. Being forever changed is something many of us can relate to, as well as wondering why “us”. Why can’t we pretend it’s not me, its them? Sharon and her band along and their producer, created an epic production meant to fill the listener with a wide range of emotions. There is a real story behind this song, but Sharon wants the listener to find their own meaning… I am sure someday she will share the details.

Calan Mai releases his first single of 2019, returns to the US in April

Calan Mai explains, “In early 2018, I traveled to the US and recorded with a few different producers in Los Angeles. ‘Friend of a Friend’ was written during one of these sessions. I entered a studio in Hollywood at 7 PM and came out at midnight with a 2-minute demo about a break-up I hadn’t even had yet. But the song felt more real to me than a recount of past events or present anguish. It seemed honest to write about a future I could predict as sure as a sunrise. Now I’m living the lyrics I wrote a year ago. I’ve given up the most important relationship I ever had for the pursuit of a dream that may never come to pass. And it’s the most liberating thing I’ve ever done because it may all be for nothing. That’s what ‘Friend of a Friend’ is about — the space between what you know will happen and what you hope will happen. I’ve learnt to live there.”

As a result, UV Rays have opened a floodgate of new perspectives and influences, embracing richly melodic pop music alongside their steadfast explorations of intricate, meter-shifting rock. “I wanted the songwriting to be a more democratic experience,” DeFontaine explains. “Early on, what people reacted to was seeing the four of us playing off each other live.
