Sweden’s Westkust share first track off their upcoming album on Run For Cover!

“It’s been almost four year since we’ve heard from Westkust, the hugely impressive Swedish indie-pop band. …today, they’ve shared ‘Swebeach,’ it’s opening track. It’s a two-and-a-half minute ripper, full of skyward shoegaze guitar and chaotic pummel. But all of that is there to underscore a big, triumphant vocal melody. And while it seems like all of these elements should work against each other, they all feel perfectly in sync.” – Stereogum

Long Ryders share new song “Greenville”, first album in 30 years out Feb 15

PULCHRA MORTE: No Clean Singing Premieres “Shadows From The Cross”

In advance of its official unveiling next month, No Clean Singing is offering up an exclusive premiere of “Shadows From The Cross” issuing of the track: “‘Shadows From The Cross’ is granite-heavy and gruesome, physically arresting and yet atmospheric – drenched in the sensations of pestilence and fleshly rot. With a mid-paced gait that seems to lurch, the track is anchored by an ominous, heavy riff and hard-slugging, rapidly rattling drum beats. Jagged guttural growls, which elevate into ghastly howls, lend fury and fearsomeness to this dark and deathly ode, which is further embellished by an eerie darting riff and by leads that flicker and also ooze misery. And on top of all that, the music proves to be chillingly memorable and insidiously addictive.”

Chris Child aka Kodomo bridges ambient & post-classical sounds on “Impetus”

Pieces For Piano is a collection of piano works composed by Chris Child with the intention of creating something simple, intimate and quiet. Having spent much of his time creating music under the moniker Kodomo in the studio, Child felt he needed to get back to a more direct and immediate approach to his composition process. As an Emmy award winning TV composer and video game composer, the compositional world was one that was far from foreign to him. But it was returning to inward looking, direct nature of the solo piano that was a therapeutic gear shift.

Grandchildren Share “Zuni” Video

Grandchildren emerged in 2008 as pioneers of Philadelphia’s underground music scene known for their unique cinematic blend of pop, folk and electronica. Their first three releases chart a sonic evolution from the lo-fi Everlasting (2010), to the symphonic Golden Age (2013) to the pop-driven ZUNI (2015). Songwriter Aleks Martray attributes his eclectic sound to a nomadic coming of age across three continents and a decade of touring, during which he met frontwoman Shari Bolar. The couple’s soulful harmonies and on stage chemistry came to define the band’s new sound, featured on the self-titled release Grandchildren (2019).

PopMatters Premieres Folk Singer Abigail Dowd’s “Chosin,” Announces New Album

North Carolina folk singer-songwriter Abigail Dowd is a child of the South who ventured to Florence, Italy, then Maine, in search of how she fit into the world — eventually ending up right where she started with an understanding that, sometimes, all any of us needs or wants is to feel heard and seen. Written with a new realization of the separation between herself and her experiences, Dowd’s new album Not What I Seem spans songs that tell her story of finding forgiveness, healing, and even gratitude, for all that has shaped her. The album will be released April 5. The first single, “Chosin,” premiered with PopMatters, with the outlet noting the “robust acoustic guitar and subtle tones of instrumentation that offer themselves well to the song’s feelings of reflection, carried forward most ebulliently by Dowd’s warm, sonorous vocals.”

Historian New Single ‘Quiet’

The bands epic body of work has drawn noteworthy nods from Culture Collide, God Is In The TV and LA Buzzbands, with favorable comparisons to The Eels, Radiohead and Leonard Cohen – not only because of his prolific output of windswept atonal songs, but his uncanny ability to tap the social outsider zeitgeist.
