OTEP Calls Out the NRA in Shocking New Music Video for “Shelter In Place”

Otep Shamaya says, “The video for “Shelter In Place” challenges the NRA’s irrational claim that “only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun”. It aims the blame of mass murders of our children in school shootings directly on the NRA, not necessarily its members, but the administration who continue to fight for people on Terrorist Watch Lists to own a gun. Why? It’s my belief the more murders that occur, the more money they make from weapons manufacturers and increases in membership which strengthens their ability to be a political power that continues to frighten the Republican owned Congress.

Video Premiere: Concrete Dream – “Relationshit”

Buxton will release new LP October 19 on New West Records

Chris Wise on the video:
“In the very early stages of ‘This Place Reminds Me Of You,’ it had a very heavy Twin Peaks vibe to it. And while it moved away from that over time, I still wanted to incorporate some sort of Lynchian mood to the video. One of my favorite scenes of all time is Dean Stockwell singing ‘In Dreams’ by Roy Orbison in ‘Blue Velvet’. We tried to pay homage to that in a way that made sense for the song. My friend Trey and I immediately went to Home Depot and were there for 2 hours trying to find the light he sings into. And then we shot it the next day at our favorite Houston dive bar D&W Lounge on a Tuesday afternoon. D&W is a sort of treasure in Houston that opens at 7am for coffee plant workers nearby. The owner Keith is a good friend of ours and was kind enough to let us use his bar for the video. My dog Rufus is in the video, too.”

Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, a hub of historical soul and blues that crafted much of the world’s modern music, Dirty Streets have spent years on the road and in the studio forging their own style. They’ve moved from DIY, independant recordings to ambitiously self-produced studio ventures over the course of five albums. Their fifth, and latest, LP, Distractions, is an explosively charged follow-up to their acclaimed 2015 release White Horse, which contains a unique style of heavy, soulful and sometimes psychedelic rock. Recorded at the historic Sam Phillips Recording studio in Memphis, the album pushes the sonic palette of the band to the next level with an eclectic mix of songs. Drawing from influences that span from the bluesy twang of Howlin’ Wolf and Wilson Pickett, to the heady expansiveness of Hendrix and Donovan, Distractions lives in its own time and place. The album was recorded live in the studio by Matt Qualls and Wesley Graham in the room where the raw and explosive energy of the Yardbirds’ iconic “Train Kept a Rollin’” was originally put to tape. This album continues the tradition.

OMB Peezy Pays Tribute to Late Friends in a Loyalty Over Love Highlight

Applying his motormouthed southern drawl to the high-energy instrumentals of his adopted homeland of Northern California, OMB Peezy breaks down the boundaries of regional rap. Taking the time to pour one out for a close friend, Peezy shares the mournful, yet defiant “My Dawg.” Digging deep into his roots, eschewing Bay Area styles for a piano-and-organ-led southern instrumental, Peezy mournfully recounts painful memories, wishing for one last peaceful moment with his lost friend and lashing out at those he believes is responsible: “Every morning I wake up and I’m waitin on you to call/I hear your voice when I’m in the studio tellin’ me ‘Imma ball’/We gon’ hold court in this street, fuck the law/You wanted me to win, these n*ggas waitin’ on me to fall.” Premiered by XXL, “My Dawg,” which follows the lyrical loose single “Got You,” is the latest single off Loyalty Over Love, Peezy’s mixtape, releasing tomorrow.
