Listen to “Even Now” By Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington feat. Soul Queen Irma Thomas
“It’s a thrill to be able to do a song with Irma,’ the Wolfman said. “We go back a long way, back to her first band The Tornados, however this is the first time we have recorded a song together. I’m hoping she enjoyed recording the song as much as I did.”
The song premiered this morning via Stereogum, who compared it to a fantasy of “Florence Welch fronting a retro rock band with traces of Jefferson Airplane, Fleetwood Mac, and the Pretenders.”
Enter Seeing Green, the band’s first full-length for Mint Records. The album’s 14 tracks were produced by Jordan Koop (Wolf Parade, You Say Party, the Courtneys) at the Noise Floor on Gabriola Island, BC. While it’s the band’s first time working on this relatively larger scale, Koop’s production has simply crystallized their ideas.
Saint Marilyn Share “Standard” Video via Blackbook
In the Spring of 2017, Saint Marilyn’s Che Houston and Kevin Marksson quit their day jobs and holed up in their shared Bushwick practice space to write a debut record. The duo spent the better part of the summer writing and rewriting lyrics and music, exploring new ideas and refining songs already in live rotation.
Gerald Le Funk and Subshock & Evangelos make their Dim Mak debut with refreshing, electro-bass track, “2BAE”. The energetic 4×4 tune is comprised of chunky basslines and an infectious, drop-tuned vocal.
According to the band, “The song is told from a perspective of unspecified “something” that is meant to represent an idea of a higher power, whether it is “chance”, a “deity” or any other “force” that you might believe in. From its point of view no matter what you do or who you are is insignificant. It is not something you should blindly rely upon as it probably has little interest in you as an individual.Absolutism is a subject that pervades many of the band’s songs, as Tiavara strives to promote open-mindedness.”
NPR says, “Wasner and Stack sound even more emboldened than they did on Wye Oak’s last proper studio album, 2014’s Shriek. Here, the pair builds on that record’s geometric keyboard confections and sculpts adventurous, panoramic pop bursting with contrasting textures.”
Brandi Carlile will be the featured guest on tomorrow morning’s “The Howard Stern Show” (listen live at 9:00am ET via Sirius/XM’s Howard 100).
The visit comes in advance of Carlile’s three shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Additional upcoming tour dates include May 4-5 at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre (both sold out), June 15 at Chicago’s Chicago Theatre (sold out), August 12 at Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre (sold out) and August 17 at L.A.’s Greek Theatre.
