SMALL TOWN TITANS Celebrate 24 Years of ‘Superunknown’

“Chris Cornell has been a musical hero of mine since I was in high school and has been a major influence in the style of our band. Soundgarden’s repertoire of music is vast and difficult to pull off. The reason we decided to cover this classic of theirs is not only to challenge our musicianship and ability but to also pay tribute to one of the greatest voices and lyricists of Rock ‘n Roll from one of the greatest bands of all time. Our hope is that our interpretation does the song and it’s original performers the justice and recognition it deserves.” – Phil Freeman

Otis Redding’s Dock Of The Bay Sessions Available May 18 From Rhino

Otis Redding was on top of the world in 1967, highlighted by a career-defining performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Returning to Memphis that fall, Redding began to explore different musical influences when he entered the studio to record his next album. Tragically, those sessions were cut short after only a few weeks when the singer died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967, leaving his vision for the album unrealized. While there will never be a definitive idea of what Redding’s next album would have been, this new collection is the first to show what could have been.

Rhino will release DOCK OF THE BAY SESSIONS as part of the ongoing 50th anniversary celebration of “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” This Friday, March 16, marks the actual 50th anniversary of the legendary single topping both the pop and R&B charts in 1968 and becoming Redding’s first #1 hit.

Mute Choir ‘Behind The Bars’

“The record’s title track, “Behind the Bars,” was a song that came surprisingly naturally. When I write lyrics, I often create a character in my head that’s tied to a situation or a conflict, usually relating to some kind of emotion that I’m feeling at that time. With this in mind, I thought it would be interesting to write a song from the point of view of a guy in jail whose wife never visits him, in an attempt to explore the thought process and emotions of someone who is experiencing that sort of isolation and loneliness.” Mute Choir
