SKOPE NEWS FOR MARCH 7, 2018 @ NOON EST

NPR’S Folk Alley premieres new Parsonsfield release- Out FRI. March 9

Despite ‘WE”s short length, the band touches on more than a few of life’s major themes: depression, love, loss, fear, living life to the fullest – the list goes on. From the opening “Light of the City,” which, for all that it’s a rich, fully orchestrated song, is really a thoughtful contemplation on being utterly alone, to the closing “Kick Out the Lights” (my favorite), a song which raises a fist against complacency and ends on a question, ‘WE’ is about appreciating life in the moment, and about being content with what you’ve got, rather than constantly searching and moving and looking toward something new.

SCIENTIST: Decibel Premieres “Magick Mirror”

Barbelith is the impending new full-length from Chicago-based avant blackened sludge metal collective, SCIENTIST. Set for release next month, the seven-track offering centers itself thematically on Grant Morrison’s comic book series, The Invisibles. In The Invisibles, Barbelith is the name of the “placenta” for humanity; a satellite-like object located on the dark side of the moon. It recurs throughout the story as a supernatural moon seeming both intelligent and benign. Barbelith’s role is like that of a placenta in that it connects the hologram of our subjective reality to the realm outside of our space-time, the domain of the magic mirror, and helps humans to realize their true nature beyond the subjective concept of “self.”
