More than 30 years after their inception, English neofolk kings Sol Invictus will release their long-awaited new album, Necropolis, on March 23 via Prophecy Productions (Alcest, DOOL). Closed Sessions has announced the signing of emerging emcee Ajani Jones, joining Kweku Collins, Jamila Woods, WesbterX, Femdot and Boathouse at one of Chicago’s most prominent independent hip hop labels. Ajani entitled the EP Cocoons because it centers on his experiences finding his voice and growing as an artist and a person. Each track speaks to a different breakthrough and obstacle being overcome for the emcee, who grew up in extreme poverty while bouncing around Chicago’s South Side. Cocoons is a recollection of hardships, but also a testament that they can be overcome.
