Anderson. “There was a moment when they were looking for a band to play in a punk club and thought maybe EMA would be a good fit. That didn’t end up happening, but I was intrigued by the premise – badass women living in 1970s Santa Barbara getting into punk. That’s all I knew! But I wrote the song with that in mind. I think of it as a survivor song, someone leaving a dark past behind, emerging again into the world. Whoever it is they definitely are wearing sunglasses.”

Anenon channels Philip Glass on “Two for C” streaming now

Anenon’s Tongue, the follow up to 2016’s breakthrough Petrol, is a beautiful album. That’s an adjective whose meaning has practically been obliterated by Hallmark prose and hyperbolic idiocy. But occasionally, a work of art digs deep enough to excavate the underlying meaning that existed in antiquity and figures to persist until we’re soil and dust.

The album explores a remarkable range of sonic terrain — crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, gospel blues, and even country — all remapped and born anew to fit White’s matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation. BOARDING HOUSE REACH is a testament to the breadth of Jack White’s creative power and his bold artistic ambition.

The band’s follow up, titled Unearth, which will be released on January 12th, 2018, incorporates similar themes drawn from their first record but makes a deliberate shift in production; the songs touch on love, loss, and total disillusionment, but rather than hiding these ideas behind a cacophony of layered samples and synthesizers, Crater sheds itself of any unnecessary weight in hopes of being more direct. Unearth poises itself as a pop record while occasionally nodding at the duo’s more experimental cravings.

Of the music Pitchfork explains, “Bird’s debut EP, Something American, taps into the spirit of Americana that artists like Margo Price mine from, but what separates her from her peers across the pond is her voice. She possesses a crystalline soprano so pure that it calls to mind bubbling spring water and untouched snowfall,” while The Independent furthers, “Her debut extended play Something American is a bold, punk take on the country folk genre…Bird soulfully sings about intimate memories, heartbreak and even divorce through piercing howls and glorious angst. Flowers, and with production from The Wlderness, Beatboy, Sonny Digital, Ethereal, Honorable C Note, $uicideboy$, Tommy Kruise, Wolfe De Mchls, Teddy Walton, and MexikoDro, Punken delivers on the promise of Maxo’s previous work and more, as the young emcee experiments with new flows, tightens his songwriting, and sharpens his observational pen.
