Nahko reveals official video for ‘Be Here Now’

After a triumphant return to the UK last week with another stint of sold-out shows including London Islington’s Assembly Hall, US sensation Nahko has released the official video for his latest single ‘Be Here Now’. The track is taken from his eclectic new album My Name Is Bear, which was released in October.

Afropunk is exclusively streaming Bartees & The Strange Fruit’s ‘Magic Boy’

Bartees Cox, a songwriter and guitarist based out of Brooklyn, created Bartees & The Strange Fruit as a conduit to surface stories about people of color. The title of the debut album, Magic Boy, (out December 8, 2017 via Pineapple Record Co.) is inspired by a lyric from the song “Hear My Train A Comin” that goes: “Well, I gotta leave this town, gonna be a Voodoo chile .. and try to be a magic boy.” This particular lyric has always resonated with Bartees since he made the decision to leave his home in rural Oklahoma for the East Coast, a change that is looked back on as being a pivotal moment in his life. This record marks Bartees’ obsession with analog recording, tape machines, space echoes, reel-to-reels and a number of other types of hi-fi recording gear. Each song was recorded to tape, or at least mixed to tape, to give it the warmth of a real performance.

Streets of Roya (Indie / Alt-Pop) – Debut single ‘All Eyes On Me’

Streets of Roya is the new project of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Wespi. Pulsating at times, Streets of Roya’s energetic yet intimate sound is based around the playing with contrasts, allowing the songs plenty of room for movement and surprises. With his unique voice and playful guitar-sounds, Wespi manages to create an escape for the audience. Stylistically, it’s situated somewhere between alternative Pop in the vein of Kodaline and Jack Garratt as well as atmospheric Indie such as Vancouver Sleep Clinic.

WING VILMA “Rb III”

Wing Vilma is a name Miles Coleman has been using for just under a year, but it’s quickly become a deeper part of his persona. The 19 years old Grand Rapids native creates music by harvesting found sound and crafting percussive sequences along with melodic textures. His debut album Safe By Night is set for a February 2nd release on upstart Detroit-based label Young Heavy Souls. The album cut “Rb III” is streaming now on Soundcloud.

Dublin band Oh Joy unveil a new video for ‘Apple’. Oh Joy are aptly named for their apparent wry miserablism, which packs out the track alongside a wash of lush noise. Formed in 2015 over a shared love of Elliott Smith, Nirvana, sarcasm and, all things melodramatic, the three-piece bring together all these elements to deliver a punch of fuzz-driven indie pining.

19 year old ATLien, Demo Taped debuts nostalgia tinged “Insecure” video

via W Magazine: Earlier this summer, Adam Alexander, the singer-songwriter who records as Demo Taped, spent some time in New York. By day, the 19-year-old Atlanta native had been reworking a gospel-tinged sample by the producer Frank Dukes; when he returned to his hotel room one night, he began texting lyrics and voice memos to the musician Ben Abraham, with whom he was co-writing a track. And by the end of the night, they had a song: “Insecure,” the most recent Demo Taped single, and the video for which premieres exclusively on W.

Nashville indie-pop duo Airpark has premiered the video for “Le Tigre” with

Richard Luke signs to 1631 Recordings

Richard Luke is a multi-instrumentalist composer and producer based in Glasgow, Scotland making modern-classical, ambient and experimental new music. Recently signed to Swedish independent 1631 Recordings/ Decca Publishing, he’s announced his new album ‘Voz’ — a reference to Luke actually being voice-less for sometime earlier in the year — for a release date of February 23rd. The album co-written and performed with Scottish Chamber Orchestra violinist Amira Bedrush-McDonald, who herself is playing 1st violin in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with Max Richter in January.

The band would release their debut album Pistola Melodica in 2014, a crowd-funded endeavor that provided a foundation for the band’s signature sound. In the fall of 2017, the band would then release their sophomore follow-up Dive Eternity; their second, and much larger, self-produced album with producer and engineer Matt Jefferson of Black Diamond Studios (Fear Factory, Revolution Saints, E-40).

Blaise Moore Shares New Video For “He Don’t”

With tinges of trap and trip-hop, the Toronto songwriter Blaise Moore pens honest, poetic lyrics that are written with a maturity well ahead of her years.

“He Don’t” is the the third track from Blaise’s Laurence EP, appropriately named after the ex-lover responsible for fuelling the inspiration behind the music. As she simply puts it: “I fell in love with a man that was only thinking with his dick.”

Moore has further garnered attention after opening for Kehlani at Red Bull 30 Days in Chicago and performing at House of Dior’s 70th Anniversary at the Royal Ontario Museum.
