SKOPE NEWS FOR OCTOBER 20, 2017

Robokid & Phem New Single “Judge Me”

The track is a collaboration between LA-based producer Robokid (of the Moving Castle label) and phem (who has collaborated with G-Eazy and Gnash in the past). Nest HQ says “The duo appear to be a match made in heaven, precisely complementing each other’s sounds and personalities for an industrial pop beat with metallic tinged-drums and other elements of hazy magic, lending itself to an impressive B-Side release.”

WHAT SO NOT FT. LPX REVEALS SCI-FI-ESQUE “BETTER” VIDEO

Video director Mafalda Millies says: “Playing off the premise “I’m Better Than…”, this music video features Emoh and Lizzy captured in a visually oversaturated cyber void, dominated with footage surrounding the notions of temptation and seduction; of simulacra and simulations.

Portland-based electronic/folk experimental artist Cars & Trains

Much like the busy painting of midtown Manhattan that serves as its cover art, Fictions feels simultaneously zoomed in and distant, taking from things both large and small, personal and political. Tom Filepp—sole member of Cars & Trains—shares stories of yearning, cycles of creation and destruction, and sympathetic laments in a world of post-truth on his much anticipated return to New Haven based record label Fake Four, Inc. Today Cars & Trains shares the political and personal ‘Fictions’ LP in full with Ghettoblaster Magazine. ‘Fictions’ is out 10/20/17 on Fake Four Inc.

LUDACRIS “Vices”

Goon announce new EP ‘Happy Omen’

Songwriter /vocalist/ guitarist Kenny Becker tells Noisey, “Chaka is a pretty old song. I recorded a bedroom version of it in December 2011 when I got a Tube Screamer for Christmas. That original demo was the first thing I made using that pedal. As it usually goes with demos, we all became pretty attached to it, especially the last half where everything gets all spacey and weird. Fast forward to present day, we tried to make an “album worthy” version of it but we couldn’t get that last half to sound quite as magical as the original. So we decided to just use the original ending, pressed up against the newly recorded first half. Doing this ended up giving the track this kinda crazy element of time travel, which I love.”

Claude Hay Drops New Single ‘Burn’

Claude Hay’s latest film clip single ‘Burn’ is loaded with political commentary. The song is inspired by the corporate greed of the coal seam gas fracking industry – which is an issue close to the heart of the blues-rocker – and a hot topic in his home town of Katoomba Blue Mountains.

Hay says:

“Burn lyrics were written after watching two documentaries on fracking, one pro-fracking and one against. I dug around on the web to find out more on the pro-fracking doco and to no surprise I found out it was funded by one of the big petrochemical companies. Pure rage naturally came out”

AUTOBAHN share their brilliant, punishing new single “Execution/Rise”

“Actually, as a band, we’re more optimists,” explains Johnson. “I don’t find talking about this stuff ‘dark’, but it’s stuff people don’t usually want to talk about—execution, rising from the dead, depression, feeling utterly lost and unsure where to go. To understand the moral crossing, to go one way or the other, and how it can change your life. For me, saying this stuff out loud gives the feeling that there’s a future.”

Introducing Oh Joy and new single ‘So Swell’

Dublin band Oh Joy unveil new single ‘So Swell’ set for release on 20th October. They’re aptly named for their apparent wry miserablism, which packs out the track alongside a wash of lush noise. Rising Neo-Soul Jazz master XamVolo

Rising Neo-Soul Jazz master XamVolo shares the Miles & AJ (Jaden Smith, Billie Eilish) directed music video for his new single Feels Good today. The video was shot in Studio 60 in Los Angeles and depicts a surreal journey inspired by the opening sequence of American Gods and Alice in Wonderland.

Speaking about the video the US director duo said: “A lot of what we do is inspired by the artist and music. Immediately after hearing Feels Good we knew we wanted to work with Xam- the song has so much depth and charm- the concept came to us in an instant. We knew it was going to be a challenge to shoot it, and after a bit of trial and error, the free fall immediately came to life.”

Showcasing some of the breathtaking and almost wondrous land and seascapes of the Emerald Isle, it is beautifully shot and is at once symbolic and inspiring.”

Hirola stream new single “Fields”

Hirola comprises Bristol-based producers LTO (formerly of acclaimed electronic outfit Old Apparatus, and a highly respected solo artist in his own right) and edapollo (signed as a solo act to Bad Banda and Svnset Waves). Their music together is entrancing. More expressive and human than straight computer music, much more obfuscate and abstract than pop music, Hirola’s debut offering has strength enough to scale multiple peaks. From deeply textured electronic production that competes with Kiasmos or Rival Consoles, to lush vocal delivery akin to Rhye, through a dreamy and hazy wooziness roughly orbiting in Boards of Canada’s galaxy. There is enough intricacy and intelligence of sound design and composition here to roughly mimic, say, a Thom Yorke remix of a Tim Hecker track.

Jim Andralis & The Syntonics Premiere Single, – “Don’t Blame New York”

You’ll probably want Jim Andralis & the Syntonics’ Shut Up Shut Up playing when they get there. If Jim Andralis’ solo debut, Your Dying Wish Come True was a meditation on grief, Shut Up Shut Up’s eleven songs focus on the occasionally beautiful act of sticking around and slugging it out. The Syntonics’ (Julie DeLano, Leslie Graves, Susan Hwang and Jessie Kilguss) celestial yet profoundly human harmonies simultaneously recall the Roches, B52’s, the Carter Family, and the Chiffons.

LILIKOY MANANAS release sinister track and video “Dangerous Calm”

The band say of the track: “Dangerous Calm is the theme song of the LILIKOY MANANAS debut album and talks about the never-ending will to find some peace. This may lead you to the most northern snowy place, there where you meet your most disturbing thoughts that you can ever imagine. In a claustrophobic world such as ours, It makes sense to look for some calmness, however, all you find is yourself, and not necessarily the most beautiful version. Our brain is manipulating our emotion, this is the Dangerous Calm.”

Hoult’s new single ‘Pharmacy’
