Wasiu – “Angry Black Man”

“As a black man in North America, I constantly have to deal with fighting Stereotypes,” explains Wasiu. “Amongst them is the ‘Angry Black Man’ one. As a kid I often found myself suppressing my feelings for fear of being labeled as an ‘angry black man’. But growing up I realized that I had every right to not only be mad but express my anger. That’s exactly what this record is. An explosion of repressed aggression and expression. It’s my response to that motherfucka in high school who said, ‘Why are you so mad, slavery and racism is over you’re just being lazy.’ High Klassified provided me a thunderous beat. The way those drums hit so aggressively, made me channel my anger and go raw on this record. Usually, the rappers on HK’s songs are melodic or on that new wave of cadence-based type stuff (for example, ‘Comin Out Strong’ by The Weeknd ft. Future). I think I’m the first one to rap some heavy bars over his production.”

Some of us – the ones who question the world around them – are fringe dwellers, the outcasts of the empire. We question this world because we do not fit into this world. We are the lost astronauts looking for those golden secret moments with shored sailors, unscripted actors in non-existent films.

Niger’s Les Filles de Illighadad present their first ever studio album

Les Filles de Illighadad present their first ever studio album “Eghass Malan.” The female led avant rock group hailing from the village of the same name bring their new genre of Tuareg guitar mixed with traditional rural folk. Versed in tradition, Fatou Seidi Ghali and her band have created contemporary studio versions that are unlike anything ever before recorded, transporting rural nomadic song into the 21st century.

Musically, Ties of Blood and Affection also maintains a comfortable and confident stride. Pinnell’s songs are shot through with honest and classic elements; rooted in his steady acoustic guitar, the tunes chug along in a spring-reverb dream from somewhere between, say, 1955 and 1975 – unearthing a sweet secret cache of songs that “Waylon Jennings might have written if he had cut a record with Alex Chilton” (Portland Tribune).

Noisey Premieres New HALFNOISE Video for “Scooby’s In The Back”

“Scooby’s in the Back” itself feels like a pure shot of hippie nostalgia, and, along with the rest of The Velvet Face EP, it’s especially indebted to bands like The Beach Boys, and The Beatles at their most psychedelic. That Beach Boys-y, trippy feel was exactly what I was going for. I came across this amazing footage of New Zealand in the 70s, all shot on 16mm film, and I couldn’t see the video being anything besides that footage. I felt like I found gold.”
