BACKTRACK LANE, new video “Breaking The Rules”

When searching through our old VHS tapes, we found some musical treasures from the nineties. One is the Breaking The Rules video that shows Backtrack Lane shooting it, with a mix of black and white « making of » images and the ones of the final result. The video depicts a rock band very close to the boys bands image, and the reality of a shooting when all the band members are opposed to one another.

The self-derision of the band reaches its climax here. They want to provide more than a touch of humour and forget all the codes of rock music : no way to see the band members play together.

JOHN CARPENTER DIRECTS NEW VIDEO FOR “CHRISTINE”

Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 is a collection of 13 of Carpenter’s classic movie themes newly recorded with the collaborators that worked on his Lost Themes studio albums and subsequent tours: his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies. Anthology… is a near-comprehensive survey of John Carpenter’s greatest themes, from his very first movie (the no-budget sci-fi film Dark Star) to 1998’s supernatural Western, Vampires. Those sit alongside the driving, Led Zeppelin-influenced Assault on Precinct 13 theme, Halloween’s iconic 5/4 piano riff, and the eerie synth work of The Fog. Jade Bird’s “Something American” video

Born in Hexham, U.K., Jade’s early life was spent mainly in flight as an “army brat,” with time spent in South Wales, Germany and Chesterfield. One of life’s few constants proved to be the influence of strong working women. At first via her mother and grandmother who largely raised her, but later the female role models within the musical subcultures Jade become obsessed with: from troubled but empowering country heroines like Loretta Lynn to iconic alternative songwriters like Patti Smith, and following a thread through folk and Americana to incorporating such confessional, undiluted songwriting into pop music (Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill was a similarly early touchstone).

MUTTS releases heartfelt video for “I’ll Be Around” along with new EP Stick Together

The band also unveiled the heartfelt and compelling new video for the song “I’ll Be Around”. The video was directed by Mutts’ leader Mike Maimone, who is openly gay and had this to say about the meaning and conception behind it: “Coming out can be terrifying. Growing up Catholic, I went into a dark place when I first started to realize I was gay. I closed myself off from people I thought would take issue with it. Some of that ended up being justified, but overall, opening up has allowed me to live a more fulfilling and less exhausting life. I wanted to make a music video that could symbolize the process of getting to this better place. I asked a few of my gay and lesbian friends if they’d act in it, and called all of the churches I could find to see if I could get a Christian representation in the mix. Although for a long time I blamed my religion for my negative feelings and isolation, the principles of love and acceptance are in there. It’s just certain people that pollute the core message. So I wanted to make sure I included that side of the story.”

Tomo Nakayama’s beautiful sophomore LP ‘Pieces of Sky’ out now!

“For Seattle songwriter Tomo Nakayama, meaning and connection—within what he calls a “broken world”—come both from what’s there right in front of us as well as what’s in absence.
