Double A Presents: BYSM hosted by Shawty Lo

he streets have always dictated the direction of tomorrow’s rap music. Before the major label record deals, screaming fans on tour and million-dollar music videos, artists relied on the streets to A&R mixtapes to determine the next superstar rapper.

Take Young Jeezy’s Tha Streets Iz Watchin, T.I’s Down With the King or Wiz Kalifa’sKush & OJ, for example. These street-certified staples first became favorites on the underground before blowing the rappers’ careers into the stratosphere. In today’s ever-changing rap game, mixtapes still dictate tomorrow’s celebrities.

And the recently released Apryl “Double A” Adams Presents Break Yo Self hosted by Shawty Lo is destined to be one of the most influential mixtapes this year. With 25 of the hottest tracks from neophyte hot spitters to veterans MCs, there is no need for the skip button. Break Yo Self is non-stop neck-jerking fire.

Freya Wilcox & The Howl shares “Nothing”

The track premiered on New Noise Magazine where Wilcox (guitar, lead vox) shared:

“‘Nothing’ is about the fact that we walk into adult life completely unprepared for its real challenges and I guess the bitterness that I feel knowing someone might have offered some kind of warning; though ultimately knowing no-one is really qualified to offer such.

Why couldn’t someone have said, ‘By the way, one day you’ll go back to your hometown and be swallowed by a burning desire to feel a sense of belonging, but you won’t be able to quite touch it because too much will have changed.’ Or, ‘Just so you know, you’ll lose people along the way, both literally and figuratively, and you’ll have to deal with all the things you never said or all of the things you should have done, and the harder you fight the grief the worse it will get.’

And because everyone goes about their business feeling these feelings and pretending we’re not all hurting in similar ways, we’re all left with a sense of dissonance and discomfort in our realities, and for me it leaves me feeling that I have little to offer others, and that I’m too fearful to take much of anything from anyone else.”
