The elaborately choreographed performance video is taken from Kat Robichaud’s rock opera/theatrical experience, MISFIT CABARET, and features Kat and her cast of dynamic performers. Of the song and theatrical representation, Robichaud commented, “The song itself is a metaphor for alcoholism. I’ve had people very close to me battle with it, and it can be a real succubus – there to comfort you at your lowest point but won’t lift you up. Around the time I was writing for the show, a friend was talking about a person who was strung out, looking like they owed death money, and I thought it was such a graphically gruesome description. I had to write a song around it.”

Las Vegas band Coastwest Unrest today shared “EPA (Edward Paul, Abbey)” from their upcoming album The Crazed Ones today in front of Earth Day. The album will be released sometime over the summer.

Frontman Noah Dickie penned most of the album last year, before there was a thought of a Trump presidency, but his lyrics on “EPA” are remarkably prescient. The song is a tribute to the dystopian/anarchist novelist Edward Paul Abbey who predicted catastrophe in novels like The Monkey Wrench Gang (and of course whose initials coincidentally correspond with a hot button topic).

Today, at the Crackle upfront presentation held at Sony Square NYC, the streaming service greenlit their new scripted original drama, “The Oath,” (WT) written and created by former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy Joe Halpin (“Hawaii Five-O,” “Ice,” “The Lottery”). These secret societies are nearly impossible to get into – but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks. The drama examines this all-too-real world through a gang that started out with the right intentions. But in order to stay both out of jail and alive, they will all need to re-examine the principles that guide them and speculate as to whether they can trust the badged criminals that operate amongst them. The 10-episode, one-hour original pulls the curtain back on the inner workings of this band of brothers forced to turn on each other after being picked off by the FBI.

Hear L.A. Witch’s new song: “Ain’t Comin’ Home”

It’s easy to forget that just a few decades ago, the only viable means for penetrating the golden glamour of Los Angeles was via the dusty trail of Route 66. And just as the arteries of the interstate latched onto the thumping heart of California, so too came the amplified sounds of a new restless generation. There was acid on the streets and revolution in the air, but there were also Hell’s Angels in the alleys and Manson’s family on the desert periphery. It was an age of innocence, beauty, and opportunity, with an underbelly of lawlessness and depravity. And it had a soundtrack.

AUSTIN POST PUNK BAND CROOKED BANGS READY UPCOMING RECORD

Crooked Bangs are a dark punk rock band from Austin, Texas. Their second full-length, II, is out April 21, 2017 on Nervous Intent Records. A tour of the West Coast will follow in late spring. As an album, II belongs to no specific subgenre, and as a band Crooked Bangs belongs to no specific movement, revivalist or contemporary. They’re a band for which the overly-broad and all-encompassing label of “punk” makes a convenient editorial cop-out. Crooked Bangs are at once brooding and howling, unrestrained and taut.
