OZOMATLI WILL RELEASE NEW ALBUM “NON-STOP: MEXICO TO JAMAICA” ON MAY 5
Grammy-winning Ozomatli will release an album of classic and contemporary Mexican hits reimagined with a dancehall reggae feel, on May 5, 2017, on Cleopatra Records. Produced by drum & bass reggae legends Sly & Robbie (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Madonna, No Doubt), Ozo invited friends Gaby Moreno, Juanes, Regulo Caro, Chali 2na, G.Love, Slightly Stoopied and Herb Alpert to perform songs written by Selena, Café Tacuba, Juan Gabriel, Julieta Venegas, Los Tigres del Norte and classic tracks from their youth. The album is Ozomatli’s first album of mostly Spanish language music in their 21-year history.

I have ancestors from there, and look strikingly like the people of that tribe, but couldn’t communicate with them. A friend of mine had just told me about “hiraeth” a Welsh world meaning “homesickness for a home you can’t return to”, and the lyrics struck me as we were riding back home. I recorded this at 6AM the next day, and this project was born. This song is about longing for roots, so for the video, I chose to plant myself in the one place I love the most.”

BARROWS: Conceptual/Instrumental Los Angeles Outfit Prepares Obsidion LP

Shady Records announces today that it has signed an exclusive deal with Buffalo, NY-based hip-hop label Griselda Records for artists Westside Gunn and Conway.
