SUNLESS: Invisible Oranges Premieres “The Ancient Ones”
As Minneapolis-based technical/avant-garde death metal trio SUNLESS prepares for the release of their belittling Urraca debut full-length in late February, the album’s “The Ancient Ones” has been exclusively premiered at Invisible Oranges.
SUNLESS reinterprets influence from pioneers of extreme, dissonant metal, such as Gorguts, Ulcerate, and Deathspell Omega through an abstract lens that is all their own, boasting a prominent rhythm section, a scattered assortment of time signatures, interwoven and complex arrangements, and bellowing death growls. Tracked by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recording in Minneapolis (The Crinn, Ambassador Gun, Maeth), and mixed/mastered by Colin Marston at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves in Queens, New York, the band’s Urraca delivers a relentlessly engaging onslaught of complex and dissonant death metal, with nine tracks encompassing a dense forty-four minutes, and artwork by friend, lyricist, and former bandmate, Andrew Notsch (ex-Youwretch).
Following the success of cuts like ‘Tear You Down’ and ‘Surrounded’, Hobart’s Chase City turn a sharp corner into electrifying new territory with their Rolling Stone Australia-premiered new single ‘Cycle.’. This is the third single from their forthcoming long-awaited debut album, due in June – and the band are currently on the road for a run of summer shows with dates spanning four states.
Taking cues from musical giants like Kasabian and LCD Soundsystem, ‘Cycle.’ is a helter-skelter track that’s just little rough around the edges. Produced by Magoo (Regurgitator, The Jungle Giants), ‘Cycle.’ allows for the dawning of a new era for Chase City, who can no longer be pigeonholed as “surf rock” – they’ve landed firmly on fresh new sonic territory that melds groove with grit.
SOULEYE ft Alanis Morissette “Snow Angel”
“It was an honor to work with my wife on this song,” Souleye told Fuse, where the video premiered. “Not only does she inspire me as an artist, but she ceaselessly fluffs my ego. She is also hilarious so we were having a blast together.”
Dave Hause Premieres New Album With AV Club
Dave Hause is one of punk’s best utility players. Whether he’s spending time in Paint It Black, fronting The Loved Ones, or joining punk supergroup The Falcon, he fits in effortlessly, playing everything from throat-grabbing hardcore to straight-up pop songs. Over the years, Hause has released a pair of solo country-ish, records and he has a whole slew of splits and EPs to his name. But for his upcoming third album, you can see a little bit of his assorted projects shining through. Opening with the rollicking “With You,” Hause takes his punk past and adapts it to his Americana-laden present, something he does time and again throughout Bury Me In Philly. – David Anthony, AV Club Music Editor

Song: Sosamann – “Just Do It”
Sauce Factory founder Sosamann’s infectious energy and inventive verbosity earned him membership with the Wiz Khalifa-led Taylor Gang, features from Slim Thug and Young Dolph, and even some animated lyrics from the notoriously taciturn 21 Savage. Continuing his hot streak with “Just Do It,” Sosamann shows yet again how his animated performances continue to improve. The beat starts off with warm strings, quickly adding in a sprinkling of piano and crisp drums to create the perfect canvas for Sosamann to paint with colorful, expressive lines. While some rappers ride the wave of sing-rapping, Sosamann laugh-raps through the video, explosively rapping about his extravagant lifestyle as well as calling out the fakes: “you ain’t real, that’s a lie!” In the video, vibrant animations pop and flash around Sosamann as he plays with his cash, shows off bling, and strums his AK like a guitar. With more heavy-hitters on the way, Sosamann is also gearing up for his forthcoming Sauce The World project, slated for release in the coming months.

Andrew Combs To Release Canyons Of My Mind On New West Records April 7
Andrew Combs has signed to New West Records and is set to release his anticipated third album, Canyons Of My Mind, on April 7th, 2017. The 11-song set was co-produced by Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Caitlin Rose) & Jordan Lehning (Rodney Crowell, Caitlin Rose) and recorded at Battle Tapes Studio in East Nashville, TN. After touring behind his sophomore album, All These Dreams, a record that earned him international accolades and comparisons to everyone from Leonard Cohen to Harry Nilsson to Mickey Newbury, Combs has returned with a new album that puts down stakes in fresh sonic terrain. Canyons Of My Mind – as its title suggests – is a landscape where the personal and pastoral converge. Drawing inspiration from the biographies of literary figures like Charles Wright and Jim Harrison, Combs has created an album that explores the notion of “sustainability” in its many facets – artistic, economic, spiritual, environmental. NPR Music’s Ann Powers previously stated, “His song-pictures are gorgeous, but he recognizes their impermanence as he sings.” This deeply felt sense of ecology, of the transient beauty within nature’s chaotic churn, lies at the heart of Combs’ approach to his art. NPR Music premiered the video for the album track “Dirty Rain” today, which can be seen HERE.
Post-punk duo NØMADS share new single “Achluphobia”
The return of NØMADS at this point in time is no coincidence… fear, as an abstract force, has never held a stronger place in our society than it does today. It colors everything we see outside of ourselves. Each song on PHOBIAC examines the fear process through the prism of rare clinical phobias, all approached in the abstract. The buried message within this set of material is a cautionary one: when we succumb to fear, chaos reigns. Technically speaking, it is generally accepted that phobias arise from a combination of external events and internal predispositions (i.e. heredity or genetics). Many specific phobias can be traced back to a specific triggering event, usually a traumatic experience at an early age.

Watching it is a bit like following Billy down the rabbit hole, and just about every character from Wonderland would be completely at home in this world. Go ahead, try it out. Jump! We dare you!

A formidable presence in the Dirty South, Memphis kingpin Young Dolph cultivated an ever-growing fanbase with an unending stream of high-quality mixtapes, tracks, and videos. Today, Dolph continues his quest for southern supremacy with Gelato, a sinister, fun collection of head-nodders, bangers, and boastful street tales. Rhythmically stunting over A-1 production from Zaytoven, Nard & B, and others, Dolph counts his cash on “Baller Alert,” brags about his exalted street status on “Meech,” and annihilates fellow Memphis rapper Yo Gotti on “Play Wit Yo Bitch,” which Dolph shared on Wednesday. Featuring appearances from Migos, Wiz Khalifa, Paper Route Empire labelmate Jay Fizzle, and Lil Yachty, who guests on the lead single “Bagg,” Gelato is Dolph’s opening salvo in a sure-to-be massive 2017.

Tonstartssbandht title track “Sorcerer” at Stereogum
Settle into Tonstartssbandht’s music and let it rock heavy from all sides. The music melds with the personal, tangible nature of the city climate, telling a stunning tale. Discovered on the road and distilled at home, the music conveys experience and subtlety, scars exposed to carry the chronicle. The music, the music, the fucking music.
Sorcerer is the most recent full-length studio album from Andy and Edwin White, the Florida / New York duo known as Tonstartssbandht (tahn-starts-bandit), since 2011’s Now I Am Become. On Sorcerer, the brothers chart a heavenly course above the storm and stress, one explored over years of touring and a poetic language forged between performers and siblings.
MERK & GETO BOYS’ BIG MIKE DELIVER A VISUAL THAT IS “HARD 2 IGNORE”
Merk felt the need to speak on this one himself. “When we recorded the song making it political was not our intent, BUT, given the state of the world, all the police killing blacks and racism being promoted I knew this video could be used to make a statement. It shows that not much has changed from what our grandparents went through. We’re still marching, fighting for freedom and dealing with corruption through the justice system. No matter what obstacles we face, we always find the strength to pull it together and overcome though. After the song was done I named it “Hard 2 Ignore” because you can’t ignore the intended message.”
