With rehearsals being almost impossible on a regular basis, modern technology lent a hand and saved the day. Oskar (Sweden), previously of Disrupted I, joined Dark Rites shortly afterwards and since then they have worked on the songs featured on the forthcoming album. Much of the work was done in their home recording studio, and not being subjected to time limits or deadlines, allowed the band to hone and perfect each song until they finally reached their desired effect.

Wolf) and savouring the freedom and license to express herself fully. ‘Awake Me’ is her enchanting new single and it showcases all her talents with aplomb. Deep Throat Choir Share New Track “Ada”
Deep Throat Choir is an all-female singing collective formed in 2013 by Luisa Gerstein. Having played in the bands Landshapes and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, the project was driven by the simple desire to bring music making back to a few basic elements: just voices and drums. Not for the love of choirs per se, but for the love of raw female voices thrown together, of the interplay of intricate vocal melodies and harmonies; Luisa wanted to sing and arrange the music she loved, and to hear it stripped and bolstered in that specific way that lots of voices can do. A melody sung by one voice is so different to a melody sung by many, and the same goes for words; the sentiment is altogether transformed when carried by a collective as opposed to an individual. This is exemplified perfectly in the line “show me emotional respect” from the choir’s arrangement of Bjork’s Stonemilker. It is not just one woman’s plea, but an anthem for all.

Behind him, an ace band…crafts an environment that’s simple and inviting, encouraging the listener to sit back and think about what’s being said.”

D.A. Stern Shares Albert Brooks Inspired “Miami” Video
D.A. Stern shares his first video from Aloha Hola in the form of this Albert Brooks inspired gem ahead of the records release via Two Syllables on January 27. In D.A. Stern’s own words…
“I am a huge Albert Brooks fan and Real Life might be my favorite of his movies. It’s basically about a filmmaker, played by Brooks, who plans to make a feature out of footage he shoots of a real American family during their day-to-day lives; naturally, everything goes wrong. The hilarious and beautiful montage that occurs during one of the family’s happier spells depicts a typical all-American family living an all-American dream in slow-motion, yet we are aware that this is not the truth. Beneath all of the smiles, ice cream cones, and board games, this family is being pushed to their limits by a selfish man with a vision. The idea that not everything is as it seems and that things are different below the surface ties directly into what the song Miami is about.”

JESSIE REYEZ “SHUTTER ISLAND” OUT NOW
At the end of Summer 2016, it was an unexpected new-comer from Toronto, Jessie Reyez, who took the music community by storm with her gorgeous acoustic track and accompanying stripped back video for hit song, “Figures”. Originally premiering on the FADER, the video now has over 1.5M views on YouTube and over 3.4M streams on Spotify – impressive for the young artist who is unsigned and remains independent. Zane Lowe has become a huge champion of Jessie, initially premiering her song “Figures” (that was played by Elton John on his Beats 1 show as well) and today gave the World Record slot to her new song “Shutter Island”.

It’s “3 Minutes to Midnight” and Lawson Rollins has “Island Time” on his mind
Award-winning world music guitarist Lawson Rollins has the Billboard, America’s Music Charts and Groove Jazz Music charts under the hypnotic spell of his new single, “Island Time,” the first cut taken from his seventh album, “3 Minutes to Midnight,” which was released last Friday (January 20) by Infinita Records. Radio programmers at influential national outlets, including SiriusXM’s Watercolors and Broadcast Architecture, have made the seductive waltz paced by Rollins’ beguiling fingerstyle nylon guitar come-ons one of the “most added” and “most played” new singles on the first two charts published in 2017. Another composition appearing on the multicultural and multi-genre collection written by Rollins, the mystical meditation “Eternal,” began receiving airplay last month on the nationally-syndicated public radio program Echoes. “3 Minutes to Midnight” wasted no time climbing into the top 20 of the iTunes world music album sales chart.
Adopting a “Brevity is the soul of wit” mantra while crafting the twelve tunes that form “3 Minutes to Midnight,” Rollins opted to communicate with a sense of urgency, immediacy and poignancy perhaps to contrast the clutter and clamor incessantly assaulting our senses and shrinking bandwidths. He eschewed his long-held penchant for sprawling compositions and opulently-layered audioscapes in favor of clear and concise constructs – all in the three-minute range – with a pared down sonic aesthetic. Producing the session with multi-platinum producer Dominic Camardella, Rollins’ new set evokes a full gamut of moods and emotions ranging from passion, energetic and excitement to brooding, melancholic and pensive.
