Through Taboo’s uplifting partnership with the American Cancer Society and by arranging an interview with you, his aim is to help bring awareness, prevention, early diagnosis, and inspiration to those going through similar battles against cancer. To help create a world free from the pain and suffering caused by cancer, Taboo will donate proceeds from each download to the American Cancer Society. These funds will be used specifically to support cancer research, prevention and early detection efforts, and patient service programs.
Taboo was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2014. After experiencing debilitating pain throughout his body following a performance, he checked into an emergency room. It was here that he ultimately received a stage 2 cancer diagnosis. Taboo underwent surgery and a rigorous regimen of chemotherapy five days a week for 12 weeks. In 2015 he was declared in remission. As the father of four, Taboo has committed to healthy living and fitness, including a daily regimen of dancing and playing sports with his family.

Howlite – ‘Reasons’ EP
Howlite is the reincarnation of Melbourne musician and visual artist Alison Thom. The moniker alludes to a mineral, thought to bear properties that calm the wearer and release old pains. In a way the shift is also a catharsis for Thom, who unburdens herself of her name and her folk roots to delve into pop music, a darker territory of layered vocals and synthetic sounds; freed from the past to create anew.
The Reasons EP, underwent many incarnations prior to its final release, including a session with Mark Lang (Skipping Girl Vinegar) and Nick Huggins (Two Bright Lakes), at the latter’s beachside studio, which set Thom down the path of using synthesiser samples and creating loop tracks. Inspiration struck with Melbourne artist and producer Michael Robinson, and the two set about creating a hybrid of sounds, taking elements from Scandinavian pop artists like The Knife and Aurora, the dreamy guitar fuzz and soft harmonies of Daughter and a homage to the grand scale drumming patterns of Florence and the Machine. The goal was to create something bittersweet – uplifting and emotional.

Unique details and fits unite two ranges for Q3 & 4. Naturally fitting for a deeply personal song- XO says ” The inspiration for “Waiting Game” came from a very raw, vulnerable place. I feel like I’m pushing boundaries and really letting my guard down to give the listeners a real piece of me for the first time”. ‘Waiting Game’ is a melancholic journey from start to finish, reflected in the video co-directed and shot by XO and Beck Clewlow.

Last week, Emel shared a new music video for “Ensen Dhaif (Human, Helpless Human),” a track off her forthcoming album Ensen out February 2017. The high energy, abstract piece conveys Emel’s political commentary on oppression through provocative, striking choreography. In the words of director Allie Avital:
“Ensen Dhaif” is a movement-based exploration of enslavement, imprisonment, and our delusions of freedom within the constraints of a capitalist society. Between myself, Emel, and the dancers, we all had different interpretation of oppression, whether in relation to a dictatorship, racism, police brutality, gender roles, or even the ways in which we oppress ourselves. With the choreography and editing, I really wanted to express this rhythm of urgency, violence, and perhaps an uplifting sense of revolution.”

SON VOLT RETURNS WITH THEIR EIGHTH STUDIO ALBUM
Seminal band Son Volt has announced the February 17 release of their new album, Notes Of Blue (Thirty Tigers). Led by the songwriting and vocals of Jay Farrar, Son Volt was one of the most instrumental and influential bands in launching the alt.country movement of the 1990’s. A movement that was the precursor to what is now widely referred to as Americana.
The 10 songs on Notes Of Blue are inspired by the spirit of the blues, but not the standard blues as most know it. The unique and haunting tunings of Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake were all points of exploration for Farrar for the new collection. The album opens with the country soul of “Promise The World”, followed by “Back Against The Wall”, a song that could stand alongside the great Son Volt songs of their early albums. However, Notes Of Blue reflects the blues as it resides in the folk tradition, but heavily amplified. The primal stomp of “Cherokee St.”, the frenetic guitar on “Static” and the raw slide in “Sinking Down” exude grit and attitude. Conversely, tracks such as “The Storm” and “Cairo and Southern” seamlessly meld blues with hypnotic melodies that add a unique balance to Notes Of Blue.
