Scam Avenue – “Sailor”

Scam Avenue exists in a world where New Wave is not a relic of the 80s but the contemporary mode of song. They strip down to the building blocks of electronic pop music and complement them with the occasional surprise: crashing or atmospheric guitars, a drum break out of left field … What was once retro is new and now and forever. With Scam Avenue you can hear the timeless New Order appeal of drum machines and Britpop guitars, Human League synths, and female vocals alternately icy and dramatic. A sound that brings to mind Saint Etienne, Goldfrapp, Ladytron, or the pop side of the electroclash years.

SIMS SHARES “ICARUS” ON HIPHOPDX

Today HIPHOPDX premiered “ICARUS” the second single off of Sims upcoming album ‘More Than Ever’ which will be out 11/4 via Doomtree Records. When speaking about the song SIMS said, “This song is about feeling unstoppable, the chorus came to me while I was driving in my car listening to this Paper Tiger beat. It was one of those perfect Fall days, where the air is crisp and the sun is bright. I was thinking about how awesome life is, just driving around feeling excited. It was one of those moments where you are like the living embodiment of love. I wanted to make a distillation of that feeling, cuz I feel like shit a lot of the time. It’s about rising above all of the pettiness, and being daring enough to take a chance; to risk being safe to do something amazing. I called it ‘Icarus’ as a counterpoint to the cautionary tale. For everyone warning you to play safe, to not fly too high, I offer: We are all going to die. Might as well live boldly.”

Additional footage from the video was filmed by Kaveh Nabatian and Bulat herself. She had this message to share about the video:

This past year has been an unpredictable, thrilling cloudburst of an adventure with hardly a minute to stop and think about what has really happened and all the beautiful places I’ve been lucky enough to see. Somehow, all since February, my songs have taken me to little dive bars in the desert, cabaret rooms, a stage surrounded by mountains, a circus tent shaking from a thunderstorm, Carnegie Hall, rock clubs, summer festival tents full of beautiful people dancing covered in glitter, theatres, folk music halls, churches, art galleries, and a roman cave. I don’t know what that all means except that I am in love with the highs and lows and all the madness that comes along with singing and playing my songs for a living and I take none of it for granted. Thank you for all your love and energy and for making these concerts the special nights that they are. I am so grateful to get to spend my life doing this. See you on the road. Love, Basia.

Tyler Reese rediscovers his creative muse on “Reminiscence”

Guitarist Tyler Reese found that being a busy Nashville session player all week and touring in a country band every weekend left little time to explore his own musical creativity. The 23-year-old, once summoned to Paisley Park to play for Prince and who studied at the feet of jazz guitar legend Pat Metheny, re-immersed himself in the music that first sparked his passion and imagination: jazz fusion. Carving time to revisit his roots resulted in the varied guitar-driven, jazz odyssey titled “Reminiscence,” featuring ten of his original compositions. The platter, produced by Jeff Silverman (Rick Springfield, Hiroshima, The Allman Brothers Band, Tim Weisberg) and Reese, will be released on November 4 and is prefaced at radio by the spirit-lifting, sweetly melodic acoustic guitar sojourn “Moving On.”

Reese composed “Reminiscence” to be an ambitious and intrepid expedition through vast jazz terrain. Most tracks slash through thickets of electric guitar-powered fusion, horn-highlighted funk and sprawling progressive rock. Others present delicate bouquets of acoustic guitar expressions, fragrant stems of gypsy jazz and new age meditations. Whether gracefully strumming gentle harmonies or dexterously plucking frenetic runs at dazzling speed with turn-on-the-dime precision, Reese’s fretwork primarily serves his engaging compositions, enabling his fingers to communicate evocatively and emote vividly.

SixTwoSeven “Wreckless Soul”

“Wreckless Soul” is from SixTwoSeven’s upcoming release, Some Other’s Day out now. The record shares alternative elements with an indie twist. Produced by the acclaimed producer, Jack Endino (Nirvana), the groupMusic Submission: SixTwoSeven “Wreckless Soul” create a stunning debut that is a whirlwind of guitars and vocal perfection.Writing songs has long been the way that frontman Greg Bilderback has expressed himself. Though he’s performed in various band over the years, and has had the sense since he was little that he was a born entertainer, his path to rock ‘n’ roll frontman had been circuitous.

Body Language premiere hypnotic “Addicted”

Brooklyn’s Body Language has always embodied something of a sensual mythos. Since their inception in 2008, the band has been known for their restless pop experiments with a future-shocked blend of soul and R&B. The quartet’s debut 2010 LP Social Studies earned the approval of everyone from NPR to The New York Times toThe Guardian, who compared the breakout release to early Madonna, the indie disco of Prelude Records and “CSS doing an impression of Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band.” With their upcoming release Mythos, they continue to showcase their intimate music with lyrics of longing, desire and lost love. Love and the perils of love have guided their message through the years while the twists and turns of their instrumental pop experiments carve a labyrinth to be navigated carefully. Oftentimes dark and moody, Mythos pushes forth feelings of desire against ominous backdrops only to quickly veer back into the familiar and comforting.

Larry June’s “I’m Workin'”

“The inspiration behind the video comes from a vision I had of me running my own orange business,” Larry June told Complex. “Oranges are addictive. Addictions are good for business. So are women. My video has all three. We workin’.”

“Gola Malimbe” for Skope Magazine

Stillehavet is a newly formed band consisting of Marit Elisabeth Svendsbøe and Gaute Stedje. They live in Bergen, Norway. Both members were previously part of a band called Funin (Marit Elisabeth was a co-founder) that released the record ‘Unsound’ on Karisma Records in 2010. “With Stillehavet we try to create music and sounds that excites us,” the duo explains. “In the process of making songs we use a lot of time just playing with instruments and sounds. Small Leaks Sink Ships Premieres New Single “Window”

“Small Leaks Sink Ships is an ironic name for a group that has overcome adversity as often as this Portland quartet. Over the years they’ve dealt with shattered bones, missing testicles (yup), and even a cancer diagnosis — all “leaks” big enough to sink a band that just keeps sailing on in spite of the odds. And it’s a good thing that they do, because their forthcoming full-length album Face Yourself, and Remove Your Sandals is an intricate, mathy odyssey that was well worth the wait (whether it was worth the missing testicles is another story).

In late 2015 the band began production on a new EP ‘Projection Mirror’. This album was the first to be engineered, mixed, mastered, and released by the band itself.
