WAX RETURN WITH A NEW SINGLE ‘THIS EVERYTHING’

It’s no secret that it’s been something of a bumpy path for WAAX, yet here they stand in 2016 stronger than ever and proud to officially unveil a new single ‘This Everything’ and announce some tour dates in its support.

12 months on from their debut EP – Holy Sick – and radio success with single ‘I For An Eye’, the founding core trio of Marie DeVita (vocals), Tom Bloomfield (drums) and Ewan Birtwell (guitars) found themselves new compadres in Chris Antolak (guitars) and Tom Griffin (bass) and hit Plutonium Studios with producer Miro Mackie to lay down a new, forthcoming second EP. ‘This Everything’ is just the first taste, a bohemoth of tune that is as much of a new release, as it is a reintroduction to a powerful, emerging band already with notorious live show. With lines like “I got nowhere to be” and the refrain “Moving backwards slowly”, DeVita certainly writes with her feelings on her sleeve and isn’t shy in telling it how it is.

Added straight to Double J rotation, frontman Matthew Kenneally says ‘Chameleon’ explores the feeling of frustration, disillusionment or disappointment in a variety of new-age literature, remedies and self help guides. “It’s also a direct reference to people that seem to be able to adapt to relationships with anyone in an often seemingly extreme way,” he says.

Sarantos Releases a Cool New Hard Rock Music Video For “D’ja Cheat”

Hard rock is probably the most misunderstood music genre. Fans are sometimes surprised to find out that Sarantos music reviews very often find a correlation to hard rock bands like Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and Fall Out Boy. There is a driving guitar and powerful drum style that is there if one listens intently. On this specific song, D’ja Cheat, Sarantos goes deep into metal/hard rock territory even approaching a vibe like Metallica. People like different genres for different reasons. Some say its a primal instinct. Sarantos continues to not stay in one stream of sound and this song shows fully the experimentation that continues to be evident to followers. Songs don’t all sound the same. Fans don’t know what to expect next. This song challenges the listener. It is not safe like some of Sarantos other catchy pop flavored songs. This song is loud and confronting, and the subject matter is not something most want to discuss let alone analyze. It’s not just noise. There is a purpose and a reason for everything on this song, and music video.

Oldermost’s haunting/gorgeous new single “Honey With Tea”

The song highlights the paradoxical blend of neuroticism and mysticism of Oldermost’s lead singer Bradford Bucknum, whose vocal delivery oscillates between semi-theatrical energetic bursts to gentle, sugary crooning. It also features the up-and-coming Philadelphia singer-songwriter Rosali, who adds a welcomed vocal element to the song. And if the lap steel playing sounds familiar, it’s because their guitarist Mike Sobel can be heard on the song “Eyes to the Wind” from The War on Drugs exceptional 2014 release, Lost in the Dream.

Arcadian is the recently announced 8th full-length album from Seattle-based electronic-music songwriter/producer Symbion Project aka Kasson Crooker. The album is set for release on September 9th, 2016, and today the new track “The Charmed” premieres via Northern Transmissions. The pulsating track features the vocals of Seattle’s Jenni Potts, who was most recently heard on Odeza’s “White Lies”. It follows “Stainless Endless Radiance”, a collaboration with Briana Marela. “ONE MORE TIME WITH FEELING” SCREENING GLOBALLY ON SEPTEMBER 8th

Director Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination Of Jesse James), has issued the very first public statement about working with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on new 3D black-and-white feature film One More Time With Feeling:

When Nick approached me about making a film around the recording and performing of the new Bad Seeds album, I’d been seeing quite a lot of him as we rallied around him and his family at the time of his son’s death. My immediate response was “Why do you want to do this?” Nick told me that he had some things he needed to say, but he didn’t know who to say them to. The idea of a traditional interview, he said, was simply unfeasible but that he felt a need to let the people who cared about his music understand the basic state of things. It seemed to me that he was trapped somewhere and just needed to do something – anything – to at least give the impression of forward movement.

LISTEN TO BOBBY KRLIC’S (THE HAXAN CLOAK) “THE END”

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine’s social and political institutions faced massive change, including an increasingly corrupt government and crippled infrastructure. A number of the nation’s youth wound up homeless and addicted to a lethal cocktail of injected cold medicine and alcohol. Steve Hoover’s documentary Almost Holy follows a pastor named Gennadiy Mokhnenko, who saves street kids, at times by forcible abduction, and brings them to his Pilgrim Republic rehabilitation center—the largest organization of its kind in the former Soviet Union. The film’s depiction of a country in the grip of poverty, addiction, and warfare is made even more powerful by its captivating electronic score by award-winning composer Atticus Ross, his brother Leopold Ross, and Bobby Krlic (The Haxan Cloak).

Watch Chris Staples return to the “Golden Age”

For some time, Chris Staples was longing for things to return to the way they had been. The way they were before he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and his pancreas failed. Before his bike accident and the resulting hip surgery. Before the dissolution of a long-term relationship. He had been left to pick up the pieces, but for a long time couldn’t bring himself to. “I felt for a several years like I was mourning. Mourning a happier time in my life, or a time when I was more youthful. Everything was different for me after that period in my life.”

Lush and warm, it has cinematic quality which suggests, somehow, that each track takes place in a different climate. With the angular and ethereal falsetto of Karli Helm contrasted by the hypnotic and unwavering voice of Eva Treadway, Please echoes a melancholic honesty that captures the album’s heart-breaking, yet insightful versatility, deriving from both Wowee Zowee era Pavement and Painful era Yo La Tengo.

iNCH PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “BREAKBONE”

Of the single, iNCH had to say, “The word “breakbone” comes from the term Breakbone fever. While I was living on the remote island of Pulau Ubin, I lived next to a cemetery. It’s a very calm, serene place, and naturally, you ponder about the death while you feed the tropical mosquitoes. These two things, made me think about a “friend” of mine that passed away from dengue fever. You see, if someone you loved and cared for passed away, the grieving process is pretty straightforward. It sucks, you love them, and you’ll miss them. But if someone you didn’t have a great relationship with passed on, the grieving process is much more complicated. I still bore a grudge and never got to say goodbye, and this song was a way for me to let go. The producer, Evan Low & I sampled sounds from the island and wanted to recreate my moment of struggling with forgiveness. My personal favourite moment of the song is the flugelhorn solo. It took us a while to find someone as specific as a flugelhorn player, but it was all worth it. Why a flugelhorn? Well, in the military, I’ve been told that the flugelhorn is the choice instrument used to salute a fallen comrade.”
