GIOUMOURTZINA ALBUM STREAM

Greek Duo Gioumourtzina were formed in May, 2014, in Thessaloniki, Greece by Anestis Neiros (synth, vocals) and John Tselikas (electric bass). It all started a month earlier when the two musicians first met in order to create an electronica/shoegaze band rehearsing songs already composed by Anestis. After a series of unsuccessful attempts to find the proper musicians to collaborate with, they decided to start as a duet something new, more flexible and more minimalistic, that would combine their soundings. During the last year the duo of Gioumourtzina became known by word of mouth initially at their base, Thessaloniki, and then on the internet and in the rest of Greece, thanks to the song “Russian Market”, their impressive gigs and their strange name (which is a paraphrase of the name of Greek city Komotini in Turkish).

LAURA MVULA NEW VIDEO “PHENOMENAL WOMAN”

Following on from it’s dark and enigmatic predecessor ‘Overcome’, the video for ‘Phenomenal Woman’ was shot during Laura’s recent visit to South Africa, and is a bold, vibrant statment of intent.

The track is inspired by a poem of the same name by the remarkable Maya Angelou, Laura says, “I wrote this anthem to raise up our women. We are the givers of life, we are the children bearers, the nurturers, the heroines, we are extraordinary in our ordinariness, we fly, we fight we are ‘Phenomenal Woman’.”

Oliver Heldens’ dynamic and youthful approach and Chocolate Puma’s years of expertise and house music heritage is the perfect meeting of minds.

“Space Sheep” combines a melodic beat with vintage arcade game sounds. An old school breakbeat chatters away under vocoder FX in the intro before we drop into a warped concoction of melodic electro bassline, spacey resampled synths, skipping percussion and swathes of metallic texture. Imagine new school breaks meets electro house. The production quality and aesthetic is just as we’ve come to expect from this trio, crisp and large at the same time.
