LORRIE MORGAN REVISITS HER CAREER-MAKING SINGLES AND SOME INSPIRATIONAL FAVORITES

She is one of the best-selling female artists in country music history, who began her career with a record-setting bang, releasing three consecutive platinum albums beginning with 1989’s Leave The Light On followed by Something In Red, then Watch Me. She became the first female in the history of country music to achieve three platinum albums in a row. In that short time, Lorrie Morgan became not just a country superstar but a household name, thanks to such blockbuster radio-friendly singles as “Five Minutes,” “Something In Red,” “A Picture Of Me (Without You),” and “Watch Me.” Now, Morgan revisits these colossal career-making hits and several more on a new album called A Picture Of Me – Greatest Hits & More in stores NOW! It is released by Goldenlane Records. Download the digital version on iTunes and Amazon, and purchase a physical copy here.

The album, which also includes lush renditions of country classics by Tammy Wynette and George Jones, showcases Morgan’s maturity over the years, as she brings new levels of emotion and expression to these songs about love and heartache, two things that country music really does best. And for her longtime supporters, the international following of fans and friends who have stuck by her through the years, Morgan proudly presents a special set of four brand new acoustic tracks heard only on this release, all of which were written by her late husband and country star Keith Whitley.

BABEHEAVEN PREMIERE VIDEO FOR “HEAVEN” VIA THE FADER

Babeheaven were born out of a long-standing friendship between singer Nancy and guitarist Jamie, who started spending time together in earnest while working on the same street in the Ladbroke Grove neighborhood of London (she in her grandmother’s antique shop; he in a soul-destroying stint at an organic farm store). Musically, Babeheaven’s tastes were similarly neighboring: bonding over a love of trip-hop, soul and ethereal electronics (everything from Portishead and James Blake to Stevie Wonder), a typical evening spent hanging out turned into an attempt to write a song together. Their tribute to Domino’s Pizza may never see the light of day, but in finding drummer Harry, keyboard/guitarist Milo and bassist Hugo, the foundations of Babeheaven were formed instead.

CANDACE NEW SINGLE

Candace began as Is/Is in late summer of 2009 with Sarah Rose, Sarah Nienaber, and Mara Appel DesLauriers. The early days brought about “This Happening” EP (2010) and the “Vowel Movements/Blackest Beat” 7” (2011). Mara moved cross-country to Portland, OR, and in 2012 the band released their debut full-length LP “III,” so named for the three drummers who played on the album. The two years following found the band cycling through drummers, with every lineup feeling more like an approximation of what the band was supposed to be, and never what it was. “Is/Is (Manimal Vinyl, 2014) would be the last to feature any drummer but Mara. During the coldest and darkest Minnesota winter that nobody wants to remember, Sarah and Sarah recorded the wistful, ethereal bedroom-pop tape “Shadow Days” (Moon Glyph, 2015). The following spring, they also moved to Portland OR.

JAY ARNER “CRYSTAL BALL”

Jay Arner’s Jay II is music for outsiders who might not want to be insiders. Sophisticated synth-pop for sensitive types or existential glam-rock for the unsettled. These songs are the soundtrack to fitting in, finding your place in the world of suffering, and finally coming to terms with yourself.

“Following my first album I toured extensively for two years, going to a lot of places I’ve never been,” Arner explains. “I love touring but on another level I viscerally felt how huge and indifferent the world is. I visited the Grand Canyon twice. It’s an amazing monument to deep time. What am I? I’m a human musician.”

FIELD MUSIC VIDEO AT NOISEY

Here’s video director Andy Martin on the making of the “Disappointed” video:

“It was partly inspired by me seeing (many years ago) the bullet time technique used in a Ryoichiro Debuchi film from the early 80s. We filmed these bullet time sequences on a freezing January day in the sports hall/gym of the Sans Street Youth and Community Centre (thanks to them!), which is in the East End of Sunderland. Pete and Dave used to play football there when they were younger, think their Mum used to work there.”
